I have applied for a work visa for the position as a dialysis nurse. I was filed last april 1 2009 and was wondering when will i get to have a visa? Anyone with a similar status of mine???:specs:

hi, im here in the USA NY, and i would like to change my status from tourist to working visa, im a registered nurse, and completed all the exam, have my NY license, visa screen certificate, but have only 6 months of experience as a staff nurse in er. im from philippines.

they say that there are many drawbacks for changing status while here in USA. Can someone here discuss the effects?

how about if i will apply in my home country? does my documents and experience enough? how about if i change my experience to 1 year by asking the chief nurse where i work before.

i'm confused right now, need your advise , thanks.

You cannot change to a working visa without a sponsor.

The risk of changing status is that if the visa is denied, you must leave the country immediately. It is illegal to enter the US as a tourist with the intent of staying.

Why don't you go home and organize it the legal way, like others who are in line waiting to get to the US?

actually, it is possible. But it may be difficult.

you need to find an employer that will sponsor you on H1B.

and, since you have complete documents, it may be easier now.

but the biggest hurdle is if someone is willing to sponsor you with the little experience you have. And for H1B, you need to be a specialist or a job must be in an administrative position.

God Bless.

thanks for the infos,

It is illegal. When you enter the US you fill out an immigration form that they give you on the plane.

That form specifically asks you whether you intend to seek work.

If you answer yes they will not let you in.

So you must have answered no to be allowed into the country.

Nursing jobs that qualify for H1B have to require specialist skills and a Bachelors degree. With only 6 months experience I doubt that you would meet the application criteria and even if by some strange luck you did, then I am not sure how your prospective employer would show that they hadn't been able to fill th post with a US nurse, as they are trying to emply you into a specailist post with so little experience.

Anyway, when it came to the visa petition part, you would be denied the visa and sent home.

I'm confused right now, too. You stated you only have 6 months of experience...but then want to change it to a year "by asking the chief nurse where i work before." Ummm...isn't that lying?

If you have a tourist visa, you should enjoy your vacation and then then go back home. That's what the word "tourist" means. Trying to use a tourist visa to immigrate is wrong. There are many people waiting in line for their chance to immigrate--why do you think it is OK for you to push to the front of the line? That's just plain selfish! :nono:

hi im also waiting for my h1b visa application uscis received my files last may 10 and still waiting for their response.. hope GOD hear all our prayers!!

im not stepping other people when i said i want to change my status here, im applying for a working visa, so it is different from immigrant that you are talking getting into the front line. IM NOT A SELFISH PERSON,.

every person who has an h1b visa and wants to apply for immigrant will definitely fall in the long list. there is no such overtaking. ok, be careful with your words.

But what you are talking about doing is illegal as you are in the country on a visitors visa.

If you want to seek work and apply for H1 B then you need to go home first.Do not risk getting a black mark against your name.

Again it is very unlikely that you will get H1 B anyway.

6 months experience does not equal an H1B visa.

thanks for the heads up

Can anyone give me a feedback about Cambridge agency/ABBA int'l? How many nurses have they deployed to the US under the H1B? How fast do they process the papers.. Really need some reliable info fast. Tnx!
