Gwinnett Tech Gunning for Nursing Fall 2014

U.S.A. Georgia

Published

Hey room! My name is Rachel. I am a pre-nursing student attending Gwinnett Technical College. Thus far, I have completed remedial math, Honors Psych, US History, Research Strat, Choices for Life, with strat and choices for GPC pre-reqs, but I transferred. I am currently taking College Algebra(Summer) and will begin science courses this Fall(2012). So the droop and withdraw rate at the college is and est. 50%. Holy guacamole...So, for my situation I am married, living at home with my husband's family and our 8 month old, Kaleb. I can't afford a babysitter so I work to days out of the week, which gives me plenty of time to play with my son :). I stay home during the day and take things slow, maybe to times a week when it comes to my class schedule.

That being said, I will begin Anatomy 1 and Lab. I chose the hybrid class for Tuesdays on campus from 6p-7:20, and then the same instructor for the Lab Tuesdays 7:30p-10:20. I am taking one science course at a time. So I should finish pre-reqs next Fall(2013). I anyone else doing something along those lines who wants a consistent study buddy. My hours are pretty fair and flexible too. I like working together for a common cause. If not, but still you are attending the school, and would like to share, by all means pls do. Thanks for reading and hopefully we can meet!

Have a Blessed week!

Helllo ladies! I too aim to get into the 2014 ADN program at GTC. I have taken my pre reqs though, BUT I may need to retake algebra. The Kaplan I believe is in the same boat as the TEAS. I would love to get my hands on a thorough study guide so if you all know of anyone with access to one please let me know!

The TEAS and Kaplan are obviously two different tests, but probably along the same lines. They're both nursing school entrance exams, so I think they would both test basic essential skills in english, reading, math, and the sciences.

As far as a thorough study guide, I have yet to hear of one. I bought the Kaplan book, and it doesn't even list the Kaplan exam as one they cover! Crazy stuff.

Thanks for the response.

Hello!!! Gosh, reading this post brings back memories. I was accepted for the nursing program and will start Fall 2012. I just finished buying books and lets just say things are pretty expensive, but expected. There is a Kaplan study guide you can buy in the books store for $20.00 but I am selling mine for $10. The math in the study guide is harder than the actual test. The test consists of adding and multiplying fractions and solving for (X). Nothing hard about the math at all. If you have a decent grade in College Algebra you should be fine. There is a writing section that is not included in the study guide. That section covers verb tenses, verb agreements, punctuation, which sentence in the paragraph should be excluded and which sentence should be added. The study guide has a section that reviews synonyms and antonyms. Disregard that section because it will not be on the test. The reading of course is the same. Just read passages and answer questions. The science is more in depth than the study guide actually covers. KEEP your AP2 study guide and study the physiology portion of it prior to taking the test. If anyone has any questions, I will gladly answer them. :)

Thank you for that information Kamecee. I am a bit leary about appying any further as I am pessimistic, and my gpa is only 3.33. I have since looked into other programs that cost more, but are more reassuring. I do hope to have a choice between Gwinnett Tech and the other schools, but I will just have to see. I will get that study guide and thank goodness I have my textbooks : )

Hello all! This is so crazy because through all the mess going on in the real world I am just now getting back on here! So sorry for never keeping in contact but if you knew what was going on you would all be like holy cow?!?!?! LOL well anyways. I started this feed so we could all work together and I am sure at some point many of us have crossed paths. I learned today how they calculate scores after the Kaplan with your GPA to know what you rank among others applying. We should try meeting up at some point to study the exam reviews together! I am so excited to be back. Hope we can all truly get connected. Keep me updated everyone! Good Luck to all gunning for 2014!:nurse:

I will be moving to gwinnett this week and apply for nursing program. I am a LPN now wanting to bridge. Do you know when classes start? I would love to study. You can email me a [email protected].

I sent you an email from my student email. I am definitely ready for some real studying for the Kaplan! Lets do this peeps:angrybird12:

Hey girl. I just wanted to say, thanks for everything. I followed your first chats when you and your other co-hopefuls were testing. You have been doing wonders and easing my stress day by day with the info you and others have been supplying. How is your program btw? any stories, or tips for those going in? How about those with a toddler? Mine will be at the childcare center on campus. God bless you and your class. I sure hope I rock this exam come test day. Fingers crossed:bookworm:

@ Blue Felt Fedora: Where are you in your program as of now? Do you have any tips you can share as far as GPA and Kaplan acceptance scores. How many were in hopefuls last year? I have a 4.0, bought a book called 'Forgotten Algebra', which seems to teach like a teacher on basics of what math section on Kaplan covers. Thinking of buying McGraw Hill Study guide for writing section since I heard it wasn't in Kaplan book. I also have the Kaplan book for the reading portion. Using AP2 lecture notes as well. Congrats to you as well. I saw you many times in 2013 thread and if I'm not totally mistaken, the year before that as well. Glad we have peeps who succeeded coming back to help us new hopefuls. God bless you guys for that :) btw, all I have left is Micro for application purposes.....

I start the program next week! I'm stoked. I'm nervous. I'm terrified. I'm ready to go. ;-)

For us, you had to score at least a 75 on the Kaplan to even be considered. I can't remember exactly how many people received the eligibility email to sit for the Kaplan (which just means they had stated their intention, completed the required pre-requisites, and have the minimum GPA), but I think it was at least a couple hundred. I have heard that of those who took the Kaplan, only 80 scored high enough to be considered for the program. 62 of those received acceptance letters.

I thought the math section of the Kaplan was the easiest one. It was mostly decimals and fractions. Very little algebra, and only one or two word problems. You are allowed to use the calculator provided on the computer. If you took the COMPASS exam at GTC -- the Kaplan is administered in the same room.

The writing section was surprisingly tough, and I say that as somebody who considers herself strong in grammar and writing. I'm not sure how one would actually study for the writing section. The reading section is very much like what is in the Kaplan guide. I would say the science is nothing like the Kaplan guide. Study your A&P II lecture notes and make sure you understand the physiology and application. Wrote memory won't do it for this section. It's all about understanding and application. Check the old Kaplan thread from March. Many of the posts were deleted, but I believe some guideline posts remain.

Good luck with micro! Just keep your nose to the grindstone, and you'll be fine. Will you be taking Human Pathophysiology in the spring?
