Guys, what do you like best about being a nurse?

Nurses Men

Published

I'm a career changer, so just trying to get an idea of what male nurses like about their job....

Work er, never know what's coming through the door, mostly routine but then in comes the truly sick/injured pt and that's what we signed up for.

I'm 2nd career as well. I don't miss the meetings, corporate drudgery, electronic tether and being a manager. Nursing is a lot more fun. If only it paid as well. 5 years in and i've reached 50% of my former base salary.

Well said. I hear ya on all the corporate BS. Funny how some are willing to part ways with all that for a lot less money.

It may be easier to go from corporate pay to nursing as oppose to nursing pay to something less.

As a female RN, my first thought was -- what sort of units does he work on and where can I get hot male patients?

Or even hot male doctors.

Or hot male transporters.

I'll take anything, guys.

/happily married btw ;)

Hot male doctors= neurosurgery, urology, ED and ICU.

I like working with smart women who are caring. If you are looking for a girl, the hospital is a great place to be!

What I like about nursing:

1) The relationship with patients

2) The relationship with families

3) Schedule flexibility and large choice of nursing specialties

4) Well paying job that the average person can learn without any problems-you don't have to be a math whiz, don't need a doctorate in business or statistics to land an interview

5) Stable industry-maybe I'm not making as much money as other dudes, but I don't get thrown out of work every time a recession hits, which seems to happen at least twice in a decade. People brag about making six figures in finance or real estate or whatever, and then suddenly the job is gone and they're lost. Their world is upside down. In nursing you get a steady check and steady work for the rest of your life-as long as you're physically able to work. If somebody wants a six figure job, all they need is a Master's degree. No rocket science.

6) Being able to walk away from a company where things are not working out and never look back. Being a nurse is like being a freelancer almost. Yes, I have a full-time job and I work for hospital X or Y or Z, but they don't define who I am as a professional. I'm in charge of my future and my growth. So if something happens and my employer is gone, my life is not turned upside down, but continues without losing a sense of direction.
