Guilty pleasure during school

I start classes on Monday and was wondering what fun thing do you allow yourself to do when you should be studying? I'm trying to figure out what gets to stay in the routine, and what is going to have to go...like TV! This website will probably be my guilty pleasure but I feel like it inspires me to study a lot of the times when I just don't want to. :balloons:

I watch TV while I study. I know it's horrible, but if I study in silence my mind wanders and I cannot concentrate, I have to have noise in the backround. When I am on the verge of a nervouse breakdown, I will go out to dinner with friends or classmates and have a big ol strawberry margarita. Buying myself a new outfit always makes me feel better, and of course surfing allnurses. Sometimes as nursing students we forget that when you work hard it's OK to play hard or you are going to burn out and be worthless. We have clinicals on Friday nights this semester until 11:00pm (YUCK), so my clinical group and I are planning on going out afterwards, having a drink and winding down our night. You have to give yourself breaks and allow time for fun. One of the hardest things you have to learn in nursing school is how to have fun because we want to study all the time, but if you do that believe me you will be a worthless mess by the end of the semester. I remember my first semester of nursing school, all I did was study, by the time finals rolled around I couldn't even see straight, I didn't even allow myself to enjoy the holidays that year. What a mistake, now I know better and have found a happy medium for me and know when to work and when to play.

My downfall is the PC.....if I study anywhere near it, I'm tempted to play, even if it's turned off. I usually have to go into my bedroom where I have another desk set up for studying so I'm not tempted by the PC. It's too easy for me to take a "quick" break on the PC and have an hour go by.

That not only releases lots of stress but helps me bone up on my A&P from a couple of semesters ago. Nothing like getting that Corpus Colosum stimulated to help me study better. Hey and my wife loves the perks...:rotfl:

Not in nursing school yet but I am known for getting so caught up in my school work that everything else falls by the wayside. My guilty pleasures during school are bubble baths, wine, and candles. I usually indulge myself late at night. After the kids and hubby are in bed, and I have studied until my eyes felt like they would pop out, I run a warm bath, add something fragrant, get a glass of wine, and a trash novel. I spend about an hour pampering myself and getting carried away in a good, trashy, historical romance novel.

I read (only every once in a while) trashy, smutty romance novels. I like to then day dream afterwards of what it'd be like to spend my life being treated as the goddess I feel I truly am instead of the butt-wiper I spend nursing school being. (sigh)

bubble baths, I'll never get rid of them. 15 minutes of a good soak is all I need.

Same here, that's why I make it mandatory to stay after school for 2hrs each day and study. That way when I get home I can turn on the computer and watch tv :D

Specializes in Nephrology, Cardiology, ER, ICU.

I'm doing an MSN online and I shuttle back and forth between class and here - yikes! My secret is out!

I am in a one year LPN program and I am about half way through and I turn up the stereo as loud as I can while I study! We just took a Pharm test that we have to get 100% on (we have 5 tries) and it was all I could do to study and not spend time with my hubby... but I made 100 today so I can goof off for at least one night!!! By the way, our class goes to eat lunch together once a week to relieve the stress that our families don't want to hear about and wouldn't understand if they did...

I study and jam to some ambience music in the background that I stream off of my pc. It really mellows me out and allows me to concentrate on what I am doing.

1. Foot spa under my desk, so at least my feet are happy while I'm studying!

2. Glass of Sangria or Chianti, (preferably in the hot tub).

3. Chocolate, chocolate and more chocolate - the very dark variety. I have stashes of it hidden all round the study, and 'emergency chocolate' in my clinicals bag LOL!

Best wishes, Paint.
