Is anyone applying for Gwinnett Tech's Fall 2011 RN program? I submitted my application back in October (I really wanted to have enough time in case anything happened). I'm still waiting on the initial letter about the meeting for the entrance exam. Does anyone know when we're supposed to get that letter? I know the application due date wasn't too long ago (Jan. 15th) and with the snow, things are probably backed up a bit, but for some reason I thought we should already have word by now.
I agree, an MSN is a good choice. Word on the street is, nursing will eventually head that way...eventually. However, you currently need to work at least a year before even applying for the MSN program. My plan is to knock our chemistry, history, etc., in a BSN bridge while I work that year off. I have to pay for the courses either way.
Another thing to consider on WHERE to go is your specialty...and you will have to choose a specialty. I want to specialize in oncology, but there currently is no oncology MSN degree offered in Georgia. The closest for me is Duke University.
Just another thing to think about as we put the horse before the cart

While I'd probably like to get a higher degree eventually, I'm just focused on getting my Associate's for now. If I spread myself to thin with thinking about possibilities, I just get overwhelmed and distracted. And I'm just happy I got in at GTC. I didn't want to go anywhere else.
I'm with you!!! I also did not want to go anywhere else. I only applied at GTC. I paniced after the deadlines passed elsewhere thinking "what have I done!"?
@Kim or anyone else in the nursing program.
I wish to find out if we really have to buy the textbooks. I am asking this because for my one year at GTC, I realized didn't really need textbooks for most of my courses especially the science courses. I am used to googling for more information and I did that for all my A&P, Micro and Chem classes because we had powerpoints to guide us and there were no reading assignments from the textbooks. What pushed me to this way of studying was because I bought the College Algebra textbook for $168, but didn't really use it.
I wish to know if you are given reading assignments from the textbooks(as was with Eng and Psyc courses), and do they give powerpoints or do you make your own notes?
I remember Dr... telling us the reason they don't give DVDs for Micro was because they were preparing us to work on our own. She said in the nursing program, we'll have to read and make our own notes.
I just wish to know if we need the textbooks.
To the seniors in the program.
Was the Hepatitis B vaccine mandatory? And if not, did any of you skip it or know someone in the program who did? I work in a Hospital and I always skipped it. I'm just wondering if it's a good move for your nursing school file to not have the vaccine.
Also, will white sneakers with a little bit of gray at the bottom be considered "white enough" for the program? As you can see I'm trying to cut cost every which way I can. Lol :sstrs:
Hi Everyone!
This site has been so helpful with getting information and reassurance about the nursing program at GTC. I'm still a student at GPC and I'm trying to get into GTC to finish AP1, 2, and Micro then apply to the nursing program. I'm fairly new with all the nursing program info and am super nervous about getting in. I currently have a 3.6 gpa and I hope I can keep it up with the next three science courses. Thanks for all your help and tips. I just wanted to go ahead and show my appreciation because you all have helped me decide this school is my best option.
Good luck to the students who are trying to get in the program, congrats to those almost done!!

As for the hep b vaccine, its a personal choice but for myself, I did it because the odds of coming across the virus is very likely in the hospital and it can live on dry surfaces for months! You need your liver, seriously. As for the shoes I heard that a little gray was ok from a previous student. I found some white shoes at payless for under $30 dollars! They were comfortable and somewhat cute ( very cute in comparison to the other white shoes out there).
@JK CharlesWhere are you doing your immunization and about howmuch does it cost? I don't know if your health insurance is covering part. I don't have health insurance so need to compare prices to get the most affordable coz I am "broke" right now. Thanks
I am currently working so I have insurance, so its costing me $25/copay office visit a shot, however my friend who is in the nursing program doesn't have insurance either and she said she called EVERY health department and it costs $75/shot... I know how it is to be broke... TRUST ME. LIke I told my friend, worst case scenario is you can opt out of it right now and then get it when you do have a little more money

Well, it's a new day with new worries. Today I'm worried about my financial aid (versus worrying about ADN versus BSN). E-mailed financial aid again this a.m. and just heard back in an e-mail that they cannot find a FAFSA on file for me. Called FAFSA and it is there and the school code is entered correctly. Guess I have to go down there tomorrow and take care of it. Now I'm hoping that this gets fixed easily and quickly.
