GTC 2011?

Published

Is anyone applying for Gwinnett Tech's Fall 2011 RN program? I submitted my application back in October (I really wanted to have enough time in case anything happened). I'm still waiting on the initial letter about the meeting for the entrance exam. Does anyone know when we're supposed to get that letter? I know the application due date wasn't too long ago (Jan. 15th) and with the snow, things are probably backed up a bit, but for some reason I thought we should already have word by now.

I made it too. I am happy we all made it. Hope to see you guys in August.

Mommybear, Taurus, and Kim,

I was wondering how much you guys spent the first semester of school with all the "extras."

Great question. I am interested to know that too...

JKCharles,

I emailed ---- and she sent me a FAQ sheet that said

Immunization/Health Summary: Per physician or Health Dept.

Drug Screen/Criminal background check: Approximately $125

Tuition and fees (per semester): Approximately$1,500semester

Books and Materials: Approximately 3000 total

I would still love to hear from the current students though.

@miss_impatient, it probably can't be compared too well between the last class admitted and ours due to the q2s change. I suppose it might give a rough estimate, but a lot of times prices don't transfer directly over like it would seem (what better time is there for the school to start throwing in random, illogical/never before seen charges in order to increase tuition and make more money?). I hope that won't be the case, and even if it is, it shouldn't be an extreme amount. But yeah, I guess it's actually smart to get an idea of the current costs anyway. :) I am curious to see what happens in terms of cost with the q2s change. If things don't immediately change, I wonder if it will a few years down the road.

But oh well. That has nothing to do with the nursing department being as good as it is...admin stuff is just obnoxious, lol.

Specializes in ICU.

Thanks miss_impatient. I wonder how much of that 3,000 dollars for books and materials will need to be purchased in the first semester? I am hoping it is pretty evenly divided between the four semesters. Hopefully the second year students will sell us what ever they can. ( I know they said some of the books are being changed, but hopefully some things may be the same).

Olivia, the numbers I got from Dr. G were for the semester program. But I'm not really sure how they were estimated.

Melissa, my guess is that even with the book changes the prices of the book are about the same. But the number of classes per semester might be different than the nuber of classes per quarter. I hope the suplly cost is spread out evenly too. Anything more than $750 a semester for books seems crazy.

I remember her saying those numbers at the meeting. I just hope the school won't change things last minute with pricing (again, not a reflection of the departments/education, but college administration). The nursing faculty wouldn't have any say over tuition rates, so I'm sure she's telling us what the faculty have been told regarding tuition costs.

I'm wondering what all is included in that $3000 besides books and scrubs. I could imagine $400/semester on books (at most), but it sounds like that may be throwing in other costs. I would say maybe gas costs to get to clinicals, but oh well. We'll know when we get there.

3000 seems a little high to me. I think all the books and uniforms and stethascope was about 600 or 700. I too do not know how the semester system is going to work. The background and drug test was about 125. If you go online once you get your book list you can find things for a pretty good price.

oh, uniforms were about 200 total.

Yeah, I was kinda surprised at that estimate as well, but maybe it's overcompensating in order not to cause upset in the chance that it might cost a little more.

So sorry, you-all, that I have not checked this string of posts in weeks. I was logging into my yahoo account to see if I was notified of more posts, and none showed up. I finally decided to go into the link directly, and low and behold, there are pages and pages of posts that I missed from you-all. My friend and I also made it in, so we will see you-all in August, if not before! :)
