GSU Fall 2012

U.S.A. Georgia

Not sure if there's one of these started already, but it's still pretty far off, so I thought I'd make one. Have any of you guys taken the TEAS yet? If not, where are you taking it? I didn't see any dates listed for GSU.

Heard from a trusted source today that decisions are being made already...these might just be for those who turned in their packets early or have top GPAs/scores, but just throwing that out there for you guys.

And yes, I realize this information isn't really helpful, LOL.

How exciting! I turned mine in 2/15... it would be really fantastic to hear quickly. That being said, I'm having so much trouble focusing in my A&P class now that I've turned everything in. I keep thinking about how I could totally fail the class, get accepted into the program, then have my spot taken away. I still have A&P 2 and am taking Micro Lab this semester, as well! I don't think I'll ACTUALLY fail, of course, but these anxieties certainly aren't helping me focus! Guess I'll just look at it as extra preparation for stress/anxiety before the program actually begins, since I'm sure we'll need to have the skills to manage it then! :)

Thanks for all the info, you guys! Crossing my fingers for all of you.

hey breezy7, im sure you'll get in too! what were your science grades?

Sorry, I missed this! I made an A in Bio I, Microbio, Psych, and Math Modeling (not sure what else is factored in the program GPA - in pre-reqs I have a 4.0, but goSolar says I have a 3.73 program GPA). I'm currently taking A&P I, Micro Lab, and Bio II. I've signed up for A&P II over the summer. I'm expectinng As in both Micro Lab and Bio, but I'm not sure what will happen with A&P. This is the first time in my five years of college that I've had any difficulty with a course! Thanks for the kind words, though :)

Has anyone heard anything new?

Nope, nothing yet...I think people should start getting letters by next week.

Nothing here, either. I'll post on here the second I do!

thanx for your sympathy guys! i appreciate it. all of my friends felt bad for me but God has His reasons for doing everything so im sure everything will fall back into place. Oh and i was in the ACE program. Unfortunately they said if i get back it i can only do the traditional option (sometimes i despise our program) lol. I forgot to post my stats! Program GPA 3.7 TEAS: 95.3. By the looks of everybody's scores and what i've seen being on both sides, i have a good feeling that all of you will get in. You guys are definitely in my prayers! I will def post if i hear something.

Wow svictor, you totally kicked butt on the TEAS! You are right though, sometimes what *we* plan is not always what God wants for us. I'm sure He will let you know when the time is right for you (and the rest of us!). It seems odd that GSU will only allow you to re-enroll in the traditional program...but let's face it, they like to nitpick over things.

By the way, what specialty/advanced degrees are you guys interested in pursuing once you have your BSN? My background is in public health, so I'm leaning toward public health/community health nursing. However, I'm also interested in L&D (had great experiences with L&D nurses when I had my two kids), peds, women's health, and infectious diseases. Basically, I'm keeping my options open because public health nursing positions seem to be few & far between. I'm not really sure if I want to be a bedside nurse forever, though. I definitely have a strong desire to focus on prevention and wellness; that was actually the topic of my application essay.

I'm also considering becoming a nurse educator someday, as I like to share information & teach, but that would be years down the line.

That's definitely odd that they wouldn't let you apply for ACE again... hm. Still, I bet with that score you'll get into TRAD regardless of the competition! :-)

This is down the road, but I'd love to travel with my work. My first field of study is medical anthropology, so my past research has been focused in cultural/language barriers and shock that occurs when people from other backgrounds and communities move to the US and have to deal with a western medicine hospital. I'd love to actually experience and work in other kinds of medicine someday, as well. This also means that I, too, have an interest in community health. I'm also really interested in experiencing L&D (my mom raves to this day about the nurse involves in my birth!), and I'm fascinated by anything neuro-related.

I'd also love to further my education eventually, with either a masters or a doctorate. I almost went down this path with a public health degree before recognizing that I'd been selling myself short; what I REALLY wanted was a hands-on nursing career, and once I saw that as attainable, the path became extremely clear. I definitely want to get started with a "real" job in the field, since I've been bartending and in school for so many years, so my immediate plans post nursing school involve a hospital job!

svictor, it's fantastic that you're being realistic about public health jobs, but I bet with GSU's connections and your passion, you'll be able to find one!!

breezy, I have an MPH degree...while I love public health, I want to work more closely with people (and I love the clinical aspect of being a healthcare provider). I worked as an epidemiologist, so I did mostly data analysis. Don't want to do that for the rest of my life.

Feel free to PM me or ask any questions you have about public health. I really hope I can put this MPH degree to work in the nursing field someday!

Oh, and I've also toyed with the idea of being a school nurse. However, the state of school nursing seems tenuous these days, which is unfortunate.

OMG- you guys are scaring me. I was wait listed twice already. GPA-3.74 TEAS-86. I don't see myself getting in competing with TEAS score so much higher than mine. Good luck to all of you!

Troop 949- thank for letting me on the forum

kuhelski, you were waitlisted twice with a 3.74 and 86 TEAS?!

Now I'm really worried. Your stats are really good and each semester the competition gets even more fierce. I just can't help but freaking out!
