Grossmont Fall 2018 Cohort

Published

Is the right place for the topic? I tried to search for an existing thread but couldn't find it.

I'm hoping to meet other applicants for the Fall 2018 ADN program at Grossmont. I just finished my TEAS (92%) with an estimated 83-85 points overall. Let's get to know each other!

And I turned in plenty of proff to get 4 pts on the life experience section. Is sooo frustrating

Hi mschajoy, I'm also from OC I got my AS at Santa Ana college so most of my classes are from SAC. I'm in Oceanside now I had to repeat micro at miracosta bc it expired last fall and did math there too. I didn't do soo great on the teas but still managed to have high pts bc of 4.0 gpa in sciences and 3.8 on prerequisites, have a health certificate on medical assistant, which it says you get 5 pts for having an allied health certificate. I work for Scripps now .I have been a medical assistant since 2012 so have plenty of work experience. I was thinking the same as you about having my classes from another college but they all match Grossmont so is not fair if they are making decisions based on that, should not matter.Where did you take your classes? I actually applied for at SAC for fall, did you?

I applied for SDSU and Saddleback...I got on the waitlist for SDSU so my hopes aren't too high and I won't find out till may if I get a spot... it's very unfair if they just accept people from the same county who have less points then us or equal.I hope this is not the case and we get an acceptance soon. I was a dental assistant for a little over a year and they told me they accept that experience and I also assisted in oral surgery. I have a 4.0 in overall GPA as well as science prerequisites. I got an 82% on the teas which isn't too great either and I only have proof for one life experience point..I also get points for having my associates degree.

That brings me to the total of 82 points and I'm sure you are at least right in calculating your 84-86. Hopefully something works out for us!!!

I'm also trying to figure out the same thing with my points I keep counting and counting lol I I come up wit 86 points if given all life experience 4 pts but even if they don't give all 4 I know I have 2 for sure so I'm still with 84 pts huh. I called and asked how they give their pts on the second language section and told them Spanish is my native language. They told me as long as I submitted letter from like employer stating I speak Spanish they will me all 3 pts and I did have 2 letter from 2 doctors stating I'm bilingual so I'm breaking my head over here too with plp having about the same range of pts or less and got accepted. I have no clue how they are doing this.

I'm really confused, too. I applied with a 3.9 (I have one B) and a 94% on the TEAS. Plus volunteer experience, 4 life experience points and a transcripts for a language. I'm wondering if maybe they didn't accept my English because it was from a different school? Or didn't accept my language? And it's frustrating because they give 5-10 extra points for an associates or bachelors even if it's unrelated so I know students who have lower grades and significantly lower TEAS scores but got in because of that. Yet students with 74 points got in on the first round last year?

Also I took my prerequisites at Saddleback college :) They match up with grossmonts just fine as well we should be good to go so frustrating. It's cool to see someone applying also from OC! I hear Santa Ana has a great program as well!

Yeah I really don't understand what is going into their criteria for selecting applicants.. ithoght he associates had to be related.. I have associates in health and science from the prerequisites required for nursing.. I have a 4.0 GPA and I know people get in with way lower than the GPA we have as well it is very frustrating.. especially when people are saying they've got accepted to the fall 2018 cohort with the same points we have! I hope we get clarity soon!

Wow jcsluvv soo jelous of ur teas score lol in a good way lol. If I had a 94 like you I would of had like 98 pts lol. I did not meet w a counselor to check verification of classes but I checked their catalog and the classes I had and they all the same with same description. But who knows!!! And yes I've seen plp w way lower scores get in and sometimes have a BS which I mean I'm hating of course, that is great to have a higher degree, eventually we all wanna get there and which is fine that they take those students but not fair if it is just bc of that. . But per their criteria all the schools say is based on points so.....not sure what is going on.

Mschajoy, I wanted to apply to saddleback but I took my teas after the deadline so I missed it. I'll see how things work out for fall if not I'll apply for the spring at saddleback.

Meant to say "not hating on the BS degrees"

No, I totally get it. I think it's great that people with higher degrees are pursuing their passion. But a degree in history doesn't necessarily make up for a lower GPA or TEAS in my opinion. I don't think all schools do it like that, though. Just the community colleges have to follow that guideline. Hopefully we find out soon! It helps to know that I'm not the only one going through this, though!

Wait you have a 4.0 and an AS and you still got waitlisted from SDSU??? That's ridiculous! I'm so sorry. You've worked your butt off and you're gonna get in. Don't give up! It's just a matter of when, not if.

I completely agree with you... we worked hard for our GPA and I understand where you're coming from! We're all in this together. I'm glad I posted to see if people were in the same boat of having the same points as accepted applicants but haven't gotten anything from roaming.. thought I might be the only one.

Awe thank you I appreciate that so much! I was so disappointed when I found out like I didn't get in, but at least I made the waitlist and I'm not completely out. I know something will workout for all of us! We've all worked hard!

I'm getting a bit frustrated and confused at all. At least we are all in the same boat together. Congratulations to everyone for doing so well on everything! I'm right around 80 points if they give it all to me. Let's keep hoping for each other!
