green poop

Published

So,

my mom was watching my nephew & said his poop was very green. she said it seriously looked like he had sucked on a green marker. he's about to be 4. i've heard green poop is normal for babies but what about at his age??? and my sister said his poop is always green------but she just lets him eat doritos & cookies all day so im worried its a nutritional deficiencies. any thoughts?

LOL... I just had to laugh after reading this thread. I have a 3 year old. Earlier this year he had brilliant grass-green poop. My immediate reaction was to freak out, but since he was in no obvious distress, I did quick research. Yup, there are certain blue food dyes that will turn the poop mysterious shades of green. I thought back to the day before, and we'd gone to a friend's daughter's christening and he'd eaten cake with blue flowers on the icing.

What I don't get are the really pale colored stools... still haven't figured that out yet.

Cap'n crunchberries cereal will do it too. Pretty shocking the first time you see it. My daughter was about 3 and came running out of the bathroom with her undies down around her ankles screaming "my poo poo is blue, my poo poo is blue!".

I've seen some interesting shades when working with kids as they'd eat the playdough.

Both my kiddos have pooped bright green after snowcones, birthday cake, etc. BUT the last time my son went green it was soft and repetitive. He ended up having Rotavirus. If the green poo continues check with your practitioner. Good Luck!

A couple weeks ago, this happened to me! I knew it had to be something I ate...even asked my son if his stools were green. Lo and behold, it took me about 4 hours to remember, I had a large blueberry/raspberry slushie the day before! Boy...was my face red.....and my stool was green!

i know this is an old post, but green poop can also mean that the food is digesting too fast.
