Hi all, I just wanted to know something you get your green card from OGP once you start your 18 month contract, do we have green cards forever or do at some point do we become citizens. Reason why im asking is because i also have my eye on airforce nursing, and they are so strict , they 'only want you to be a citizen' not an 'alien' resident that they call us..Please tell me that we get full citenzhip after a while or will i have to be an alien for the rest of my life.. :D

Green card is usually 10 years but after 5 years you can apply for citizenship. That is what we are planning on doing

If you join the armed services you can apply to become a US citizen after 3 years and not 5years.

Can you move to the US with a diploma in nursing?? I thought you had to have a degree? Or does that depend on your employer?

well, im going to have my degree before i move over there as the immigration is a LOOOOONG process, but you dont need a degree to work over there just a diploma. The reason why im going to do the degree, because i want to do post graduate study in the usa, if you dont have a degree its well, a bit of a headache if you want to sort out about further study , and because our training is nothing like it in the USA, im going to jump at the chance of getting my Bachelors once qualified. It purely depends on your cicrumstances and what you want. If when you go over there you just want to do travel nursing after your 18 month contract for example, or take a contract up at a hospital you will only need your diploma but if your looking at more extended roles in the future like Nurse Practitioner or CRNA which is what im interested in, a Bachelors degree is a big MUST. hope this helps..xx

As long as you meet US nursing requirements you can move to the USA. Each BON has their own requirements and if you meet them they will give you the ATT to sit nclex. Nothing to do with your employer

its all very well having the degree, but what really counts is the hours in different areas that makes the difference.

hows it going with that? did you have much luck in sorting that out monique?
