Hi guys! It's not my first time to post a thread here.My first one was posted at the philippine forum and it was about me planning to take the Local Board exam this december.I've been reviewing since June because I graduated 1997 (and was sidetracked) and it's only now that I've decided to pursue my nursing career. After a month of reviewing I suddenly realized that I can take the NCLEX and can practice in California without taking my local board exam.
I'm so confused as to what exam should I take.My major apprehension in going straight to the NCLEX exam is that it's been 10 years that I graduated.Meaning, maybe a lot has changed regarding nursing concepts.I've been studying really hard but it seems that I'm pressed for time.TOO MUCH INFORMATION...TOO little time....i don't want to whichever exam I decide to take.
Please help me decide.

if you ask me, i'd take the nclex-rn after reviewing extensively with the concepts and updates. the local board exam is really far different from the nclex items. maybe the same concepts and applications but the way questions are presented to you it is really far far different.
before you decide, think about what you're doing to do after the exam. if you want to work in ca then you might want to consider taking the nclex exam.
good luck!!! :)
thanks for the advice.I checked suzannes plan and it is useful for nclex.I just don't know if i can follow it:o...having the fact that I NEVER practiced nursing(didnt took the local board here in the Philippines yet),I graduated 10 years ago,and I have "few" stock knowledge.Do you think I can still follow suzannes plan considering these facts?
I have the latest Saunders nclex review book and havent tried to answer the chapter test before reading the chapter.what I do is read it per chapter before taking the test.I'm so afraid that if I first answer the chapter test I'll fail.

You do not need to take the NLE exam to work in the US. It is not required. However, if you do take it, then you are required to pass it before you will be able to get licensed in the US.
You do need to take and pass the NCLEX exam to work in the US. No way around that.
Either exam is going to require preparation, it is not going to be easy, but it can be done. If you are not going to work in PI, then do not bother with that exam. In order for you to take the NLE, you are going to have to submit documentation of specific cases that you did while you were in school. Are you able to meet those requirements now?
