Hi all,

I am new to this site and new to nursing - hopefully! I am applying to the LPN program at GL Tech evening division. Is anyone else here going or has gone to that program? I am taking the NET in June (the last test date) and I just ordered study materials. I have to pass it because it is the last time they offer it!!! I am 40yrs old and completely changing my career so I am hoping I am not the oldest in the program if I get in. So send out a hello if you are going to the program at Lowell Tech.

I havent been on for a really long time...I'm hoping everyone's good!

I'm taking the test on Feb 6th...little nervous but I know what to expect since I took it and passed last yr. hopefully it wont be too bad this time around!

sawyer: HIII!!! I'm assuming you're trying again this yr too?! have you taken the test yet? I'm super excited about it and I'm hoping and praying for nothing but the best for everyone...I feel like we've been going at this for so long!

keep me posted on your progress guys...I'll be on a lot more often and checking in too! :heartbeat :nurse:

Prisi!!!! I sent you an email thru this site the other day to see how you are doing!!! I interviewed in Dec.....I didnt have to re-take the test.......just had to get new references and updated resume - and I was ACCEPTED!!! It still doesnt seem real because it is so far away but I am psyched. I am trying to get a CNA job in the meantime to get some experience.

Good luck on the test and I know you will do well.....remember when you have the interview to really show your determination to get in the program.

Hi Prisi.....I am going evenings...since I live so far away there was no way I would make it there in the a.m. and not be grouchy from the traffic!!! I am a night person - I never go to bed before midnite so it works out better for me - although I will have to go in the mornings on every other sat & sun but at least there wont be horrific traffic!! I am thrilled but it seems sureal since it is so far away!!!

Good luck on the retake - you did great last time so I am sure you will do great this time - and I think you have a great shot of getting in since you were waitlisted last year like me! Keep us posted!!!

Alright ladies so hear is the news. I passed the NET!!!! Holllaaaaa!! This time I scored in the 77th percentile as opposed to 47 last time! I am soooo happy lol. Now all I have to do is schedule my interview and get this done:D I still haven't heard anything about a new date for my CNA test but I'm not too worried about that right now. I am just gonna concentrate on the LPN program. I do have an issue though with my college transcripts. I was in college but didnt do well at all and that was back in 2002-2004. Do you guys think I should bring the transcript along anyways?? I mean I have a few decent grades on there but there a lot of bad ones as well. Let me know what you think guys!

Wooooooooo! So happy for you!!! :yeah:

Is there any way you can omit the bad scores and just show a few of them? Or do you have a good explanation as to why the grades weren't so good? Otherwise I would just skip it.. I mean if you did well on the test, if you have good references and did well in the CNA program that would probably be enough to prove that you can handle the program, IMHO :)

Hi,

I am currently in the day program and just wanted to share a bit. I thought the first semester was tough. We had seven classes as well as our one clinical day and our lab class. Clinical is great because you are applying the skills that you learn in class but it also comes with a lot of paperwork. Now, second semester is brutal and I hope I can find a groove and start settling back in. The change is dramatic because now we are in clinical for three days and only have school for two days. The clinical days are filled with a ton of paperwork and you could have a different patient each of the three days which means even more paperwork for you. Now you are trying to do your clinical paperwork on Mon, Tues, to pass in on Wed or Thurs and then before you know it it is Wed. night and you are studying for the two, three or four tests that you have on Thursday and Friday. If you are on days you need to make good use of your weekends and get all of your studying done then. Then when Wed comes around you just need to refresh. First semester I could cram for the tests but this semester with all of the pharmacology I just can't cram for those. I scored a 99% on my entrance exam and am still working my butt off everyday.

This is just my advice to I think Sawyer- I wouldn't worry about getting a CNA job. You are in the program, enjoy your time and get organized at home because that is what is going to take the hit and have to fall by the wayside. There are people that are CNA's and they do great, they already know how to make a bed but they are learning and struggling just like us. You would never be able to tell in our group who was a CNA and who wasn't, unless of course they have been doing it for years and years. Thats just my opinion but I would enjoy every second that you have right now and don't add anything additional that you don't actually HAVE to.

Some of the former students came in and met with us in the beginning and I listened to them talk about how difficult it was and I just thought to myself, "thats them, not me....Maybe they just had a hard time" Ummm no! Every single person in the class will tell you it is the hardest thing we have all done! People are stressed crying and complaining but we like you are going to make it.

I guess I went on and on and all I really wanted to say was, ENJOY YOUR FAMILY AND YOUR LIFE NOW! Don't worry about looking for the experience and getting a cna job (unless you need to) just relax and get things in order.

Yikes I need to stop talking so much and get back to the books! Best of luck to all and I will see you in August (when I come back as a graduate...yah)

Ladi...woohoo!!! good going!!! Regarding the college transcripts - I was in college eons ago and like you had good and bad grades - did you take any science courses? that is what is most important - if you did good in those and then had the transcripts then include them......if not - just put on your resume the previous science courses that you took. Also, if you can get a reference letter from your cna instructors and just tell him that you are waiting for the Red Cross to schedule your certification.Let us know when you are scheduled so we can send the positive vibes your way!!!!!

meant2be.....OMG thanks for your post - I am sucking up all of the info that i can get. That schedule sounds crazy and I am prepared that this will be the hardest thing that i have ever done........i just wish they would give us the book list now so i can start studying!! Thanks for the info regarding the cna too.....I am torn of what to do because I keep reading that in this economy even an LPN needs experience before being hired so I thought that 6 mo CNA experience would help that along. But I do know that I will be giving up my life next year.

what do you think is the hardest part of the program? is it just because there is so much info in a short time - or is the material really hard? If you can give any other scoop regarding the teachers, classes, clinicals, other students, I would appreciate it - I cant wait for the orientation to soak up all of the info.

First......I have no idea. If I remember from last time..the packet wasnt given to them w/ the list of books, etc til pretty close to the start of school. I want all the info NOW because I am starting to panic :eek: about how hard this program is going to be and all of the work and memorization and I want to get a head start. I might send an email to inquire about it. Are you doing anything to prepare?
