Hi all,
I am new to this site and new to nursing - hopefully! I am applying to the LPN program at GL Tech evening division. Is anyone else here going or has gone to that program? I am taking the NET in June (the last test date) and I just ordered study materials. I have to pass it because it is the last time they offer it!!! I am 40yrs old and completely changing my career so I am hoping I am not the oldest in the program if I get in. So send out a hello if you are going to the program at Lowell Tech.
Thanks
Susan

Hi everyone !!! What a great site...I just found it today and have enjoyed reading through all the posts. I'm excited to join in on the fun. I am 38 years old (wife & mother of 3) and have set my sites on nursing school for 2010 @ GLVTS (god willing). I know at my age...going back to school is a big step...but after reading some of the posts and realizing I am not alone...I am now even more excited to start this journey. I got my application printed & ready to be filled out. How many students per year are accepted??????? Any useful & helpful info is greatly appreciated. Nice to be here :)
Kim
:) Thanks for the info....I just found out the numbers as I read back.....ughhhhh nothing like adding more stress...haha....that certainly is not alot of students considering all the applicants. At my age I dont feel like time is on my side so to get accepted for 2010 would be a dream. I have a son who will be a graduating Senior from the Lowell Vocational next year....so would definately be cool if we could graduate around the same time!!!!! :)~ I'm READY to take this on!!!!!!!!!
Hi Kim,
Good for you, and good luck ! You can do it, just put your mind to it and you you will be fine!
You will also NEED your families support! It is going to be a tough road. You basically have to realize that you will have no life for 10 months ! Your life will be at the voke and studying! I'm not trying to scare you, that's just how it is. I was in that program 8 years ago and had to drop out for personal reasons.
I'm 45 now and going back. I'm trying to get into Mount Wachusetts program. It's a little different, they want you to take some classes before you start like Human Biology and two Psy classes, which I have completed over the summer. I'm just waiting to receive the letter and hopefully will be starting in Jan.
Good Luck!
Did you take the test already for the Voke?
No I have not taken the NET yet (thats the first big step..haha). I actually did try the test about 20 years ago...I convinced once of my friends at the time to go for it with me. I unfortunately didnt make it back then....and my friend did and she went on to school without me. She has been nursing all these years and even went forward to get her RN degree. I spent my time raising my family.....but I still havent lost my passion to become a nurse....so I'm going to give it another go:)...it's never too late right? :)~ Thankyou for the words of encouragement...it's certainly nice to have the support. I wish you all the LUCK too...and Ill keep my fingers crossed you!!!
Just wanted to update while I have the moment to do so. School is in full swing, and so far I've been doing well. It is true all you do is study, don't have time to make much to eat so I live off of pb&j sandwhiches and whatever my boyfriend brings to me, and it's exhausting. But fortunately I enjoy learning about it all and it's so exciting to be able to tell your family what you know.
I also work 3rd shift on the opposite weekends of school so alternating back and forth from 1st and 2nd shift for school and 3rd for work is somewhat of a pest for me but it's alright. And yes, there are 40 day and 40 night students admitted to the program each year. Just want to let you guys know that on top of your tuition whether it being in-district or out-of-district the price of graduating for each class is somewhere around $1500. So just keep that in mind. We started raising money the second week of school for it.
Good luck to all of you for 2010!
I'm working on the application now, sooo excited!!! =D
Is December early enough to take the test you think? There is one in November but it's less than a month away and I don't want to push it. Is the entrance exam really that hard though? I have a basic math knowledge and am pretty proficient in reading/writing, etc
Oh yay another early starter!! I signed up for the test in November! I think the earlier you take the test the better your chances at getting in. I also heard that the test wasn't too bad. There is actually a website where you can get practice questions for the NET.

Check it out!! :DGood luck to ya
