Please Anything

There had been a request before for advice and what I wrote there is what I recommend here: buy a small paperback published by The Princeton Review. It's called Crash Course for the GRE. That and the CD I got in the mail after signing up for a test date worked fine for me. I spent the month before the test preparing for it, maybe 30 hours total.

It's silly little things like writing "a b c d e" on the scratch paper ahead of time over and over again. Question by question, you draw a line through each letter you know is wrong. It's amazing how your attitude can improve when you know that for each question it comes down to a choice between just two or three. And writing it down means you can space out and panic (for a few seconds), take a deep breath, blink a few times, wonder "okay, where was I?" and see that you were deciding between b and c.

Great that you've got everything else behind you. Good luck on the GRE.

I had to take the GRE twice, once in 1998 for CRNA school and once recently for my physiology doctorate program. I used the princeton review book and powerprep software on both occasions and found that to be more than adequate preparation.

Hope this helps,

Mike

Goto the website www.number2.com it is a prep site which is ran by the developers of the standardized test (GRE, SAT, etc), its a good prep tool.

i tried a varied approach. first, i got a one of the review books with a cd, did the practice tests. i'm good at math, but hadn't had any since calculus in my freshman year in college (which was a long time ago). so i got some math review cds at sam's club. although geared more towards high school students, they covered everything from basic math to algebra, geometry, and trig and were really helpful. then, i made flashcards of the vocabulary lists in the back of the review book. (the vocabulary, for me, was the most tedious of everything). then, to help with the logical reasoning part of the test, i got puzzle books/magazines and practiced with logic problems/puzzles. and i did really well on the gre, too. now if only i could find a graduate program i'd like to apply to.....

I took a class at the local university. It cost about 500$ which is still 500$ less than a Kaplan course.

thanks everyone, princeton review has a class at the university of texas and is only $79. Ill start with your advise and let you know how the course went.

Isn't it funny that GRE makes you more nervous than CCRN probably. It was for me. Anyway, I wouldn't buy anything extra other than the free stuff you get from GRE. The booklet that you can download off the site or the CD that they send you when you register is plenty enough. After taking it I can say if you know how to do what they give you (math) you will do well on it. They also give you tons of writing exercises and stuff to help you prepare. I wouldn't waste my money. What could be better than studing the information given to you by the folks that make the test?

Good Luck

I'm having GRE flashbacks!! I was 35 weeks pregnant and the placenta had eaten my brain but it was the only time I could take it and make my grad school application deadline! The guy at the test place was totally freaked and stared at me the whole time I took the test (because I looked like I was ready to pop any minute) - I almost faked labour just to spite him!!!

Good luck!!!! :p
