World Canada CA Programs

I'm just wondering if anyone has applied I'm in the middle of sending my final transcript (finally finished Math 30 pure) and I'm applying as post secondary. I really wanted to get into the fall but it was full by the time I applied January feels kind of awkward to start school. Anyways.

Post here if you've applied and with what GPA. Maybe we can help each other out with the waiting :)

You still havent explained the huge contradiction with what they say in their pamphlets and what they tell you when you go in to ask about your application. Application date should be secondary critera but apprently that's not the case judging from you and the lady i spoke with today.

I'm sorry... Wait. What? Where did I say anything contradictory to their published admissions policy? How do you know that someone who applied just days before you, who had a high school average lower than yours, was admitted? If "the lady (you) spoke with today" told you, she has violated that person's privacy. This is a serious offence and she could get into a lot of (legal) trouble if that person finds out. If this is purely conjecture on your part, then your argument is a little weak.

You may be in for many, many more disappointments and feelings of being mistreated if you plan to enter the career of nursing. You're going to find that academic superiority won't take you very far, and that the most deserving isn't usually the one who gets the best, most sought-after opportunities. Not being mean, just telling it like it is.

With all due respect you quoted some blurb off of the website which states grades are considered first and then application date secondary, however you say something that is totally opposite.

Also, it's not conjecture I've found these discrepancies through collaberating with others who are applying for the same intake as me (via this forum). I'm also curious as to why any of this would be relevant to you, you seem to take a strong stance on defending GMU's horrid admissions procedures which might lead one to believe you're affiliated with them in some way.

In no way did I claim superiority because of my grades I'm simplying playing the game just like the other hundreds of applicants who apply every year. You seem to be in distress that the only things required for admission are grades which suggests that you don't think people who get in on grades are deserving, unfortunatley this process is something I have no control over. Perhaps back in the 1800s they required applicants to profess their undying love to the profession but that's not the case these days.

The only way in which Jan or any other nurse is "affliated with GMU" is by being required by AHS to be buddied with student nurses. That's right, we get to assist the university that permits you to become a student nurse to educate you.

Over the years, it seems the brighter, more academic the student, the less likely they are to feel the need to touch the patient! Yup, student nurses have to bathe and feed patients, to do pericare, ostomy care and woundcare. It just seems that those that don't come onto the units spouting their own credentials usually do better when it comes to the hard physical work that nursing really is.

Oh, and working nurses don't recieve a dime from the universities or AHS for being your buddy and providing you with the benefit of our years of experience. The only nurse who is paid is the nurse who becomes your final preceptor and trust us, she/he isn't getting rich off of it.

So if one person has an 82 and another has an 87% you're telling me the person with the 80% would get in over the other because they applied a little earlier? That's insane..

Yes, that's how it works. The U of A goes with admission average only. Grant Mac takes the first XXX number of people who apply that meet the admission criteria.

I got conditional acceptance for Jan.

has anyone else heard anything back?

YAY. I was finally accepted this morning I'm so lucky they still had seats left I was told I cut it really really close...Has anyone else heard good news?

Has anyone registered for classes yet

iim having a hard time finding a textbook does anyone have them already?

So have you started by now? Are you in the full swing of things? Any stories of classmates and their acceptance woes? Averages of acceptance?

I started in January and like other people are saying the admissions stuff is a headache but once you're past that it's a really good program. I just wrote my midterms today actually for both of my main nursing classes and they were tough. I'm still getting in the grove of things as my classes are in the early morning and I'm a night person. Gotta get used to that. The program is really good as it has small classes sizes because I think there's only 150 people accepted per intake. I think all of my classes have less than 30 people each and it's only been a little over a month and we all know each other (lots of group work). The other nice thing is instructors there actually learn your name after a week I was surprised my instructors learned my name so quickly.

I think most people got in with their high school marks which apparently is easier than getting in with university marks. If you have a 3.0 or 80% you'll get in as long as you apply the minute the applications open. One thing I will stress is take classes that will lighten your course load. I'm only taking 3 classes whereas most of my classmates are taking on a full 5 and they all look stressed as hell lol.

Feel free to ask any questions. I know this website has been a good help when I have a question.

Very good info! Thanks.

I do have an 82% high school class average. Also I received honors in an unrelated diploma program from NAIT, however, in one single class there was a discrepancy and a "F" was on my transcript also with a later "P" for a pass. So not sure how that will be handled. I am very energized to complete the nursing program. I have been thinking of this career change for a few years now and figured I need to do this now or never. I'm 34! I did apply on February 1st... Fingers crossed!
