Hi everyone,
I have been an LPN for 19 years, and will graduate in June 2004 with my ADN/RN. After graduation, my husband, kids, and I will be moving to Acworth, Ga. My question is, what do you all know, and more importantly, think about Grady Hospital??
I have been offered a job there to start when we move, but my thinking is if they already offered this job, even before they find out if I have passed NCLEX, are they really that hard up? Is the work environment bad?
Please, all who know, give me some input about Grady and all others in the close area.
Thank you, I love all you guys!!!

Please enter "grady" into the search section - you find numerous threads describing work conditions at that facility.
Most of the opinions expressed are not favorable.
I tried to do that-- go under search-- but it brought up no results. Oh well maybe I will try again tomorrow.

The word grady brought up 27 threads including this one, for me.
Thanks Caroladybelle!!! I tried again, and got it. OMG!!! I do not think I will be going to Grady!!!
If I wanted those conditions, I would, but I AM NOT THAT CRAZY!!!

I am planning to relocate to the Athens area because I have a son in Atlanta. I can say first hand from having him there as a patient briefly after a car wreck...it is a disaster as far as a place to work. Most of the care givers there could bearly speak English..and they were very understaffed. They are a trama center and certainly see their fair share of all types of patients. I say...beware.
Sorry to be so negative. Good lucktto you. I am seeking emploment in more of a rural environment such as Home Health well outside of Atlanta.

Please do your research on Grady! I do not work at Grady, however, I have lived in the metro Atlanta area for over 20 yrs. I have been down to Grady on a couple time to take my mom and friend, however, that's been over 14 or so years because I try to stay clear of Grady.
Grady is great for trauma and excellent burn unit, however, since it is a dual county hospital, the government is "suppose" to run the hospital. Grady has had a lot money and management problems. Also, about 2 or 3 weeks ago, it announced that it was going to do a big lay off.
There are other great hospitals in the metro Atlanta areas. Please check Northside, St. Josephs. I worked for Crawford Long & Emory a few years ago and I loved it. I wish I was working for them now. There is Piedmont, Dekalb Medical. I worked in Information Technology Dept at Atlanta Medical Center for almost 4 yrs. It was ok. It is Tenet.
Good luck!

Look closer to home when looking. Acworth is only about 15 minutes from Wellstar Kennestone. Very busy, large hospital - but I loved working there. I learned alot and still keep up with some of my old coworkers. I would probably still work in the ER there if we still lived in the area.
I did some clinicials at Grady - I wouldn't choose to work there if I had any kind of say in the matter.

I went to Emory for grad school, I loved doing clinicals at Grady.
It will be a wonderful place for a new, yet seasoned RN Your experience is needed in a place like that. I had on the back of my driver's license, "Take Me to Grady incase of an emergency.

i have never worked at grady, but i know that it is the main trauma center in atlanta. i hear it is a great learning experience, but the pay isn't great. Also, in atlanta, it is quite common for hospitals to offer positions to new grads, sign on bonuses or scholarships. There is a lot of competition for recruitment of new nurses in the area. i agree, with the person who said that you might wanna find work closer to akworth. atlanta traffic is awful. Kennestone, i believe also offers a sign on bonus for a year commitment. look into it before you sign up with anyone. good luck.
Thanks Adriennefu!!!! I called Kennestone, and their incentives and benefits are really good. I will interview there when I grad. Thanks again!!!
i am glad that the info helped you.
