graduating with 3.0 - is it not good enough

Published

Hello everyone,

I am a senior nursing student in Texas. I'm graduating with a 3.0 nursing GPA (my cumulative GPA is higher). I am not in honors society. I'm so afraid that I'm not going to get a job with this GPA. One of my friends told me that it's not competitive enough. But I worked really hard for it. I thought that 3.0 is an OK GPA for nursing student. After hearing all the rumors in my class, I freak out. Can you guys share your experiences with GPA? Do you guys have advice/ suggestion for me?

GPA shouldn't matter too much for a job. Possibly if you're applying to a new grad residency program, but other than that it won't matter. I'd rather work with a competent 3.0 that works their butt off and is willing to learn than a 4.0 know it all..

A 3.0 is the requirement for most graduate programs. But I have never heard of an employer asking about your gpa.

My 2.98 GPA ha given me several jobs, all at "prestigious" places of employment.

It doesn't matter.

For a job it will not matter your gpa, just your valid license number after you pass the nclex

I'm graduating with a 3.1 GPA, and I've already had 4 job offers. GPA isn't everything.

It'll matter more when you apply to grad school, but it shouldn't affect your ability to get a job. Good luck!

I agree. GPA only matters when it comes to grad school and maybe new grad residency programs. Other than that a 3.0 is a B which isn't bad.
