Graduating ASN, problem with post-nclex employment?

Published

Alright, this seems moronic to me, but here it goes.

I graduate in December w/ an ASN. I currently work as a Critical Care Technician in an intensive care in a small town hospital (watch cardiac monitors, do ekg's, help lift pt's, etc)...

1) I just looked up online, there are absolutely ZERO hospital positions available in my state (ME).

2) My employer just told me that if I pass the NCLEX, I can't work as a CCT unless my employer wants to pay me nursing wages which they said they can't do (understandable)....

Is this true? Am I seriously going to be fired because I pass a bloody test? So, I'm going to either have to wait to take the NCLEX until I can find another job, or take it and find another job?

Am I obligated to tell my employer that I have taken the NCLEX?

I'm a tad bit miffed at the moment and my chainsaw is broken so no psychotherapy for me. I have a test on Depression/psychotropic drugs on Monday and a Cardiology exam on Thursday.... I wanted more stress this week. :p

Any advice guys? I could really use some.

i dont see why they have to fire you bc u pass a stupid test. unless you have actively applied for RN positions i could kinda see their reasoning.but thats just stupid.

hopefully you can resolve ur issue. I must say dont avoid the test because of ur job (that i know u need to pay bills lol)...in the long run you'll be happy u took it and are an RN :)
