Graduated cot on friday!!!

YAY! I made it - I graduated from COT yesterday and am now on my way to my first duty station, Lackland AFB/Wilford Hall Medical Center in San Antonio, TX!

I was going to post a nice "column", if you would, on my experience, and I still might - but feel free to post any questions you have here and I'll answer what I can.

It's not so bad (but remember, I'm prior enlisted), but I won't say it's easy. Compared to BOT (the regular officer's training that lasts 13 weeks) and compared to what the Army does to get the same direct commission, it's a cakewalk - but it's not "knife and fork" school, so don't let your recruiter fool you. Some of the civilians experienced a bit of culture shock - but trust me when I say it was nothing like BMT.

So if you have any questions, post away.

we definitely mentioned it. the recruiter was well aware of us wanting to go together. we'll see what happens.

Mobro! Hopefully our recruiter paid attention... he sometimes seems to have selective memory with things:0) haha... Question for CarolinaPooh! How much upper body strength is required to get through the physical portion?? I was looking on the website and an obstacle/trust-building course is mentioned a few times. What does this involve? I have a slight fear of heights and want to know if I need to start climbing ladders now to try to work through that:0)

Another question! What was the food like?? Are we allowed to keep granola bars or something similar in our rooms in case of hunger emergencies?

Might be because of the ABUs, but I have worn shiny rank at Sheppard, Keesler, and USUHS.....I don't have to buy ABUs for another year...lol

Might be the ABUs.

I miss BDUs because I feel like a duffel bag in my ABUs.

Hi, Yes this morning by some miracle.

I am going to COT in January - NTP at Ohio - then permanent duty at Langley - small hospital (40 beds). It was my fourth choice.

Let me know ASAP where ya'll are going!!

Good luck!!

I am going to COT in january too. Are you ready for it?!

Did you talk to your recruiter about wanting to get stationed together? We definitely made it known that we wanted to be stationed together if possible. We had some mention of a "buddy system" on our applications, too. I'm actually amazed, though, that it actually happened, especially for all three things, COT, NTP, and duty station!

I am also assigned for COT in Jan along with NTP in Scotsdale and My permanent duty station in Travis California! Are you ready for COT? I feel like im not...physically. Kinda of worried about. Very excited for California tho. Are you doing Labor and delivery or medsurg?

Hi Sandy D8,

I'm really nervous about COT!! And can only hope that I am ready. Physically, I think I have the running down pat as I was always a runner (to stay in shape). I am borderline with the pushups and some days are better than others. Glad to hear that you are excited for your permanent duty location :) !!

Have you received your orders yet? What day are you flying out to Maxwell?

Yeah I just received my orders in the mail yesterday. I have not called the number for booking a flight yet. Going to do it after this reply. My recruiter says to book the flight on that monday that we start. I was planning on the day before but he says most are coming on that monday.. Anyways I am getting really excited about it. This will definitely test my strength and confidence. I wish I knew what everyone looked like on here so I can see some familiar faces when I get there :)

Hi,

Sounds great. My orders haven't come in yet. Do you have facebook? We have a COT facebook group called AF COT Class 10-02 :)

Specializes in ED. ICU, PICU, infection prevention, aeromedical e.

You people go to COT on monday and you don't have orders? ! I'm an overorganizer and planner, how are you managing it?!

And for you folks going to NTP in Scottsdale... I live in Phoenix and would really love to meet you when you get here! I'm on the facebook site (one of the left behind folks who hopes to go in March.). So good luck in COT! I'm so excited for you ... and alot jealous.

Yeah - I'm freaking out a little over it!! My recruiter thinks my orders will be in soon. Kind of worried though :uhoh3:. The good thing about going to COT in march is that we can all give you tips on do's and don'ts so you will be ahead of the game when you get there!! My friend who applied around the same time as me hasn't heard anything either - I feel really bad. My fingers are crossed for everyone - you will make it and by then you will be so good at pushups that you will be able to pump out more than 50 in a minute!! Thanks for the well wishes - wish we would be seeing you there.

good luck at cot! make sure you report back- haha. i just got the call today that i will have ntp and be stationed at keesler. however, i don't go to cot until may!! i cannot repeat the expletives that followed the delivery of that information...

i'm excited for every else though!! just unbelievably ****** about may...
