YAY! I made it - I graduated from COT yesterday and am now on my way to my first duty station, Lackland AFB/Wilford Hall Medical Center in San Antonio, TX!
I was going to post a nice "column", if you would, on my experience, and I still might - but feel free to post any questions you have here and I'll answer what I can.
It's not so bad (but remember, I'm prior enlisted), but I won't say it's easy. Compared to BOT (the regular officer's training that lasts 13 weeks) and compared to what the Army does to get the same direct commission, it's a cakewalk - but it's not "knife and fork" school, so don't let your recruiter fool you. Some of the civilians experienced a bit of culture shock - but trust me when I say it was nothing like BMT.
So if you have any questions, post away.
Anyone ever been to langley? That's where I'm going...
I am currently stationed at Langely. I work L&D. Where will you be working? PM me and I can fill you in on lots of local info (I grew up here) and base info. Our new hospital is being built and we will likely move operations from the old to the new hospital in Feb 2010.
If anyone else finds out they are going to Langley, feel free to contact me!
Thank you so much for all the info, it really helps! I just had a couple of questions...
1) You said earlier they did yell at you, did they do this only in the beginning or was it the whole time?
2) Did you have to do any field problems?
3) Is it catty like nursing school?
4) How were the classes? Hard? Boring? Interesting?
5) Did you have much time to study for tests?
6) What would you say was the hardest part?
Thanks!
I found out on Friday that I'm going to COT in January, and I was stationed at Travis. NTP will be in Scottsdale, AZ. My really good friend from nursing school who is joining the AF with me got exactly the same assignments. It really could not have worked out any more perfectly! Travis was our second choice, btw.
Did you talk to your recruiter about wanting to get stationed together? We definitely made it known that we wanted to be stationed together if possible. We had some mention of a "buddy system" on our applications, too. I'm actually amazed, though, that it actually happened, especially for all three things, COT, NTP, and duty station!

Hi, Yes this morning by some miracle.
I am going to COT in January - NTP at Ohio - then permanent duty at Langley - small hospital (40 beds). It was my fourth choice.
