Graduated with BSN, but still not RN

I have a friend of mine that had graduated from a very prestigious school with her BSN 8 years ago. She has taken the NCLEX-RN and had failed it 3 times. She's currently working full-time not as a nurse, but as a surgical tech. She has to support her kids and she's aware of the refresher course but due to time contraints she can't do it. She doesn't want to quit her job either. Is there another route, something online even, she could possibly take into account?

I would advise your friend to pick up Kaplan's book to study. I am an LPN and about to start school to be an RN in May. This much I do know, when taking the NCLEX-PN or RN it is important to know how to answer the questions. It's not necessary to know every answer. If she understands what the question is asking, that makes it easier to answer them. Also, she will have to really buckle down and learn to answer the questions in the alotted amount of time too. That has proved to be a problem. I hope this helps. If she needs a refresher course I don't know of any but I would suggest she try to work it out herself first. I'm sure if she has her BSN she is fully capable.

I agree with gods_gift, I recommend Kaplan. I just graduated from nursing school this December and due to job conflicts and time off, I couldn't take the Kaplan course in a class room. But Kaplan offers an online support that has tons of lectures, questions being explained using the decision tree, tons a questions in the QBank & tests to prepare you for the exam. If your friend is really good at self study of an online environment, I highly recommend it.

She can also get the Saunders review book and follow Suzanne's plan which she can read about in the stickies at the top of the NCLEX forum. She can do this on her own for the cost of the book.

I worked at a nursing home with an LPN last year. She earned her BSN degree 6 years previously, but could never manage to pass NCLEX-RN. I also recommend Kaplan products to get her over this hurdle.
