graduate nurses in Navy and Air Force

Published

I am graduating in December with a bsn and have contacted both the Navy and the Air Force. I talked with an Air Force recruiter on Friday, who had me fill out a prescreen form which I immediately filled out and sent back to him. It's Tuesday and still haven't heard anything back from him. The Navy is a different story, I have called the recruiting office for my area at least four times and still have had no replies in the past two weeks. Are these recruiters that busy that a response is difficult for them or are they disinterested in a recruiting a graduate nurse. I have read some of the posts on here and it seems that the application process can take quite a while so I would like to get started as soon as possible any suggestions on what else I could be doing?

Did his message machine say if he was out of the office for any reason? I live in Missouri, and have had contact with 4 Air Force recruiters. When my primary one was out of town, I could contact one of the other 3. I don't know about the Navy's personnel.

There is no way that the military would not be interested in a prospective graduate nurse. Some other people with their bachelors in the AF do not get the sign on bonuses/loan repayment that nurses do. One big reason for this is to try to attract more of us to singing up!

I contacted my recruiter in July of this year, and have been slowly grinding through the governments gazillion gears... I expect to leave for COT in Jan 2010, pending my selection.

the board for reviewing new nursing applications meets in a couple weeks so it is likely that the recruiter could be really busy. i would just call every couple days and check back in. my recruiter would get a call/message from me about every other day!

as for the navy...i called about ten times and left messages for people that would "return my call in a day or two" and absolutely never heard anything back. i also called the air force reserves and they were super nice/helpful/easy to get hold of- but in the end i decided the reserves weren't the way to go. long story short, the lack of availability is one of the reasons why i never pursued the navy.

I feel you. I have called my local naval medical officer recruiter hundreds of times and even e-mailed her but no response. I'm guessing she's pretty busy but some sort of response would be nice.

Hey there all.

I am very interested in continuing this post. I am just beginning the steps of contacting the armed forces recruitment people. I'm interested in what they have to offer and what the benefits are. I've always been a little interested in the armed forces, but never have pursued them truly.

Can anyone give me insight into what they've told you so far. What will happen after you sign up? Loan forgiveness?

It'll be interesting to see if there is a difference between offices.

I'm in Texas graduating in August with a BSN.

Take care

I contacted the Navy last year and forgot about it for two months until I was finally called back - now i'm in the program. Leave messages and be as patient as possible, I guess it gives you time to really research what you want.
