What kind of graduate nurse? Did you complete an RN program? Some states permit nursing (RN or PN) students who successfully complete Fundamentals of Nursing to sit for the written exam for CNA with proper documentation from the school.

Most states require a candidate to complete a program in practical nursing to sit for the NCLEX-PN exam. (NJ & NY are two states where students who attend or complete a RN program are ineligible to sit for the NCLEX-PN, only individuals who complete an approved program of practical nursing are eligible for LPN licensure whether by endorsement or examination. An RN education is not equivalent to a PN education).

To work as an LVN/LPN, you need an LVN/LPN license. To work as a CNA, you need a CNA certificate. Inquire with the respective state entity about applying for either in your state.

i just finished my 4 year BSN .. im planning to take the nclex-rn but im wondering if i can be qualified as a cna/lpn?

I would second Caliotter's advice. Every state is different, enough that it's impossible to give "blanket" recommendations.

Depends on the state. In my state an RN cannot work as a CNA or LPN. As I posted previously, a registered professional nursing curriculum is not usually equivalent to a practical nursing curriculum so you would not be qualified to sit for the NCLEX-PN exam in my state without completing an approved program of practical nursing. If you are a GN but not a passer of the NCLEX-RN you may be able to test for CNA, but again it depends on your state's requirements.

Best answer would be from your state's board of nursing.

Why don't you contact your state Board and find out?
