I am so glad to hear that I am not the only graduate that had "life" happen and didn't get my NCLEX taken! I am so glad you started this post, too, AmyD. I have been so incredibly discouraged becuase of my length of time out of school (3 1/2 years) and the fact that I have had so many other things on my mind besides nursing (since graduation;three pregnancies, a move, husband depliyed, etc). All of you really give me hope. I really was beginning to think that I had thrown all of that hard work down the drain and that I was the ONLY one going through it. Thank you so much for the encouragement and sharing your lives with me! Good luck to everyone.
hey girls/guys
im soooo glad you posted this. I thought I was alone. I graduated with my BSN in 2003, and stayed right in school in another field(biology). I am now finishing up my first year in grad school for biochemistry. I have not worked in nursing, and probably cannot remember ANYTHING!!! I have been googling refresher courses, NCLEX review etc, but cannot seem to find anything in my area. I just registered for the online NCSBN course (15 weeks) I dont know how I am going to study for this along with my schoolwork now(im so one track minded). Has anyone got any tips for starting from scratch like this?? Maybe we could be study buddies to help motivate eachother along:) If anyone wants to keep in touch and track eachothers progress PM me!!!
good luck everyone and send any advice over!
hi! i am so glad to come across this thread and read all your experiences as i can really relate to it. i also haven't studied for years, 10 yrs to be exact, but i am an Rn here in sydney. i have been so brain dead since i had my two kids but am so determined to pass this nclex this year, i was planning to do it last year but God had a different plan for us (like having another baby).
i started doing suzanne's study plan and am going through saunders. i was just wondering if anyone had any study tips when juggling a family, kids and hubby :) and studying for nclex? the house is currently a mess, i am taking every opportunity to study and only half the things i read is sinking in, hehe.
anyway, happy studying to all!!
Hey There
There is always Faith..I graduated in 1988, wrote on January 12th and passed at 75 questions...
I used Lippincott's text and CD"S, obviously they set the mindset on how to answer the NCLEX type questions..They encourage you to think critically..I had a lot of priority questions and I was so stressed out over the Pharmocology questions and Metric ... I never had any!! WHEW!!
Praise God is all I can say.....
I drove 8 hours wrote the exam started at 10:08 and finished at 11 ... I was a basket case...
Prayers for all......

You wrote the nclex this january 12th 2006?????
Yes this year !! LOL ............ I still live in Canada and needed to write for my move to the US....I was a CNA then went back and graduated from a three year program in 1988...I was just A WEE bit nervous to test my exam skills to say the least....
May I ask?
What did you do for all those years?
What made you take the test now?
how long did you study?
did you do alot of questions?
how hard was it for you (the test)?
did you feel like you failed when you left?
wow you are my hero!!!!! LOL
AmyD
Hello, Diana Lynn
Wow, it's incredible that you pass the nclex just like that!! Congratulations! Could you please answer those AmyD"s questions? I'm just curious....Lippincott's was the only review books that you used? Did you take any nursing refresher course before sit for the nclex? I WISH to have that kind of LUCK too! Good luck in you nursing career Have to say that you are my heroe too!!
WHEW!!! HANG ON A MINUTE AMY LET ME PUT MY TEETH IN LOL....
Just kidding, I feel so old now....
I started out as an LPN for five years, the only reason I never went directly into Nursing was because I only had a grade 8 education...This was where the fun started LOL....I wrote and passed my GED's ( second time around ) then I tried to get into Nursing shcool...Are you out of your mind !! No body wanted me , I tried 5 years in a row, and shew !! finally I got in by fluke to a school in Newfoundland ( Bless them ) I was scared to death!!!
I was also a determined person out to prove that just because some of us do not have high school educations doesn't mean we are dumb!! Just we were not ready to work then.. I graduated in 1988 from a three year program WooHoo!! Class Presindent for three years, Class Validictorian and five awards ( One was the silver Medal for the second highest academic standing ) I wrote my Canadian exams and here I am.....
Started immediately working in NICU/PICU then after two years joined the Flight Team and stayed there for 10 years total..Move back to NS to be closer to family ( It was a wrong move )...
I worked in Ped and OBS then transferred to Palliative care for a year..Wanted more so I did an intensive onsite Critical care Nursing program and went to Adult Emerg..Which is where I am at present. I have also done the Distant Emergency Program, TTNC, ENPN, PALS, ACLS. NPR..etc..
TA DA the dreaded NCLEX....I sure would not want to do it again..Studied a couple of months leisurely answering questions in Lippincott, and doing the CD that came with it. The questions were different, I remembering going to the first one and thinking YEAH!! after I read the question I know that answer yikes I looked down it wasn't there..So I just moved along and the whole time I was thinking Please God let this computer shut down at 75 questions...I just wanted out of there..But I relaxed sat back... and you have to think the question out, what would you do in that case, why and prioritize your thoughts remember the Patient always come first Safety..
I had no math questions...The computer shut down at 75....
I raised my hand and I went out and got in my car and cried!! I had no idea how I felt but the one thing that kept me going was if I failed those exams, I guess I will just have to go back and have at em agagin!! CAUSE I am coming to TN...Praise God I passed..
Thank you Amy..I am kind of proud of how my life turned out too and no one has ever called me their HERO......((Hugs))
Now you asked remember and this is my story..
P.S. I have my own teeth BTW!!!! :sofahider

lippincott was the only one....no nursing refresher yikes!! i have been nursing for 26 years the last thing i wanted was a refresher course i guess i figured if i couldn't pass the nclex after working the field for that long then maybe i ought to get out....
thank you for your kind words.....

Well, I had worked in nursing for 8 years prior to that, but I had never post qualifying done any adult med/surg stuff, and that worried me as that's the bulk of the questions. The preparation course is the key, if you can pass finals, you can pass NCLEX, go for it but prepare well.
