I was just wondering if instructors will generally round up to the nearest whole number when it comes to grades? In our nursing student handbook, it only states that 95-100% is an A, 93-94% is an A- and so on....so if I got a 94.7% in a class....is that an A- cause it is below 95%, or is it an A because it should be rounded up? Final grades aren't posted yet, and i would kind of like to know....and yes I know I'm a nerd ;-)
yeah, but the difference in knowledge between 74.9 and 75.00 is so minimal there is virtually no difference. you think that person with the .1 more actually knows anymore. why i am always for rounding up.
Not at my school either. My very close friend just failed a class (74.87%). They told us that it wouldn't matter if you have 74.99%. That is not 75% and hence not a passing score!!
Well, we have to keep an 80--not a 75. And, I was just saying I think it is VERY nit-picky to fail someone for .02 of a point. Like another poster said..you think there is a huge difference in someone who has a 79.8 and and 80--I don't think so. Also, I think if they are going to be so picky they should give us points for work that we do. Like, we have to do daily careplans (no points), we have one huge care plan do (no points). We are only graded on tests. I mean, we know this going into the program, but considering all of that, plus it is almost $700 per credit hour, not including all the fees they add on..it is just ridiculous!
Thanks for all your answers. Final grades are posted now- she actually did round up and gave me an A without the "minus" (i never ever thought i'd come out of that class, "nursing interventions", with an A) so I get to keep my 4.0 for another semester =)
BTW, if you are right on the line for passing/failing, maybe you should retake the class and master it anyway. I think you have to be pretty confused about the material or have slacked on the assignments to get a 75% (the line for passing at my school). I really hope any time I am sick in the hospital that my nurse was at least in the 80% range!

the difference is i dont want the person with the 74.9 or the 75.000000 taking care of me. there is such a culture of mediocrity in nursing school, its saddens me. a mantra at my school is: c=rn.

what does that have to do with anything? besides the fact that you are overpaying for your education, you do not purchase your grade, or .2% of a grade. you purchase your seat. thats it. what you do with that seat is up to you.

ditto. imo, .1 is not that significant of a difference.
I also think that a 75% is too low of a standard. But I also believe that everyone is allowed to have that one class that just kicks them in the butt. If it was a 75% across the board, then yes, I'd be questioning their drive, desire and motivation to be a nurse. I would hope that come time for the NCLEX, getting by on just a 75% average wouldnt be enough to get them that license.

Oh Please ! If my nurse got 75 % all through NS... Who cares ?! If 75 % means that she's " mastered" the course then so be it. As long as she's competent and caring, who cares about whether she scored A's in B's in nursing school. C nurses ARE nurses too.
If I'm sick in the hospital I don't want a snobby A/B nurse taking care of me.
