Grad Nurse LPN job offer in SNF

Nurses LPN/LVN

Published

Looking for some advice! I graduated LPN school and I'm taking the NCLEX on 2/24. I was offered a job in a subacute rehab making $30 hourly in Maine. They IV train their new nurses. They also train their nurses for 2-6 weeks, however much you need. I would have 10-11 pts. I feel this would be some great experience! But I also think it would be overwhelming as a brand new nurse. I'm sure there are many nurses who went right into SNF, how was it for you? Also, should I accept the job?

That is an excellent ratio for SNF. We work 30-40 : 1 and I've had as many as 60 on night shift and I'm at one of the "good" facilities in my area. That's also a good orientation for a new grad, snatch that job up because facilities like that tend to not have a lot of staff turnover.

Moon - you said it pretty much all. Sounds like a good facility for a new nurse. Just hope they keep up to their promises.

OP - congrats and good luck for your NCLEX.

A 10-11 ratio in LTC is almost unheard of, as is an orientation longer than a few days. If they actually stick to that promise it sounds like a unicorn facility!  I'd imagine if this is indeed the case they are a great facility to work for and probably have minimal turnover so I'd definitely suggest taking the job.

Hi ! This post is a year old but I think when you see SNF it's probably the rehab wing of a LTC. There's no way that in a nursing home with long term residents the nurse would only have 11 residents to pass meds etc to.  At least in PA !!

No matter what run like hell! Subacute rehab is hell with that many pts. I have worked as an LPN for years, get out of there or you will be burned out in a few weeks!
