New Wellness Director
sleepwalker - This post hasn't gotten me many replies. I thought it would ! I wanted to clarify one thing :the role I have is in assisted living/personal care home not skilled or nursing home. With that said, I'm still hanging in there. The staff drama and turnover is actually been the toughest part of the role. Any assisted living Wellness Directors out there feel free to jump right in ! Annual survey is coming up. I'm preparing for that and will post how it goes.

Grad Nurse LPN job offer in SNF
Hi ! This post is a year old but I think when you see SNF it's probably the rehab wing of a LTC. There's no way that in a nursing home with long term residents the nurse would only have 11 residents to pass meds etc to. At least in PA !!

New Wellness Director
Sleepwalker I feel that way at times trust me. I've been doing it since late Summer. Please elaborate. I've been cleaning up charts, getting POLST forms for all residents with code status, etc. The last survey (which I was there for as the nurse) wasn't terrible and the regional nurse believes this years will be better. I'm looking for feedback mostly on time management, how to fit it all in without going bananas.

New Wellness Director
Hello... Ling one grab the popcorn! I have not been a nurse very long, just three years. The opportunity fell into my lap last fall to become the director in an AL/memory care. The former director just did not pan out. I'm not sure exactly why . My question to any AL Wellness Directors/DONs: do you think that someone with 10-12 years as a CNA, med aide, then 2.5 (as of last fall), years as an LPN (graduated right as COVID took hold-3/2022 can make it in that role? I've gotten good feedback from my administrator and some in corporate. It's just that gosh it's soo much. Thoughts and opinions pleease ?

Assisted Living really much different than LTC??
Hi all. This has probably been covered but bear with me :) I have worked in ALFs as a CNA/med aide before . I've recently moved from nursing home to assisted living as a LPN. Is it me or have they become VERY similar? It seems the biggest thing is there's residents now that really need mechanical lifts due to mobility, but of course we don't have that in personal care. The other thing is the staffing is not even as good as LTC which is not enough typically at all. I will say it is not as stressful as skilled nursing however, it has it's challenges. Any assisted living nurses : which one do you prefer, ALF or skilled nursing?

CNA's Are Tired Of Laziness
You are right. Nurses need to help with the care of their residents. I work in a place where the aids aren't responsible for vitals . The nurses get their own vitals. I personally toilet, answer lights, get ice water, pass nourishments and snacks, and have gotten them fully dressed on many occasions. While it's not easy fitting all of the work in, some nurses who don't have attitudes or were aids themselves understand what it takes to run a unit the right way. You commented on my post. Keep your head up you sound like you know what you're doing and will make a good nurse !

CNAs running the building??!!
I completely agree mlmckenzie . I think at this point LTC needs a total revamp of what's going on in these buildings. It's terrible that residents have to wait or not be cares for properly because some CNAs and nurses don't want to go out of their way to work hard. I understand it's not easy because we all get too many residents to take care of but if we want to be treated as professionals we have to have the high standards in our work ethic. Maybe I'm still green as an LPN. I graduated just as covid was taking hold in Spring 2020..not the easiest times for sure!

CNAs running the building??!!
As I said I was a CNA for 10+ years before becoming an LPN. If some nurses don't realize the patients are theirs, they are wrong. Please read the post again..

CNAs running the building??!!
You all are so right..it makes us LPNs feel like we are pointless! I'm sorry I know I'm not able to tell the RNs what to do and what I'm not going to do. But for the sake of the residents I just try to brush off the egos but when I see a wrong I feel inclined to politely speak on it.

CNAs running the building??!!
This is a rant- Before I get anyone upset - I was a CNA for almost ten years before becoming a LPN. What I'm noticing is it seems as if the majority of ltcs, the aides run things. I don't know about you all, but I don't remember it being this way before.. For example, how can someone not licensed tell a NURSE how to do their jobs? Or give an attitude when the charge nurse has to ask them to do ... you guessed it their jobs! I think if you have a nurse who will answer lights, toilet, provide peri care right alongside the aides, the nursing assistants should have a little respect for the nurse. It's been said many times..along with running the med pass, vitals, and treatments, the nurse is also thinking about a million things, charting, and making sure meds are reordered and available. Does anyone else get soo tired of it?

How much experience for unit manager?
Hi all! How much experience do you all think an LPN should have in LTC/nursing home to be unit managers? Most job postings require RN but I be have seen ads for LPN/RN. Also, for any current unit managers, what's your day to day responsibilities. Thanks:)
