GPC Nursing Program - Fall 2015

U.S.A. Georgia

Published

Hello All,

I see that there is not a current thread for GPC. I just received an acceptance letter yesterday and I am ecstatic! I have applied to the program twice before and was denied, so imagine my surprise when I opened my mailbox. Can't wait to get started.

I was wondering if anyone else has received any news.

For the background check and drug screening....do we have to get it done on that site given? or can we get it else where?

Also, does anyone have any suggestions or recommendations of where I can do a CNA course this summer?

so you have to have a 3.2 minimum to get accepted? I read on their site the TEAS minimum is 63

Stephanie,

My name is Tanya. I was reading you posts for GPC fall nursing program. Can you give me the low down on the program? I am starting bridge in Jan 2016 and have not been to the orientation yet. But what days are clinicals, lectures and skills days? Do you know anyone that might have used nursing uniforms, books or the nursing bag they require? How much of this do I actually need if any? I could be missing some questions, but anything that you know will definietly help. Thank you, Tanya

Tanya, I am in the program now and it sounds like you'll be joining me in med surg.

Clinicals and skills labs can be any day of the week. Everyone is scheduled differently. Lecture and exams are on WEDS ans it's basically all day.

The nurse pack bag, they provide with your deposit money. The uniforms are specific from a company called meridys and it's the only place you can order them from. Name tag too. You'll get an email link with a code for it. You need to buy all white leather shoes for clinicals. You'll need your own stethoscope and pen light as well.

The books listed you will need. I was able to find used ones out there.

MamaPaul,

Thank you for responsing to my post. So, obviously other questions. So is med surg the second semester- ob, peds and psy? When does second and third semester start? How do you like the program and tests? Do the tests questions come from a test pool or are they just made up by the instructor? Also do the questions come from power points or books or both? I am a slow learner so I need to figure out way to pick up alot of info in a short amount of time.

I am straight RN, and we are finishing up Fundamentals now. Semester 2 is Med Surg, then 3 is the Psych OB and PEDS. We've been told that LPN Students will be joining us next Semester but according to these links, that's incorrect and we'll actually be in different classes.

So it looks like you won't actually join my class until 3rd semester.

As far as tests, they come from all over. Powerpoints AND Books are super important. If they say read it, they mean it. You really have to critically think and you really need to know your Maslow's and ABC's. I'm enjoying the program and doing better than I "was told" that people do in the nursing program. I've passed validations on the first try and have gotten very good grades on tests. I do study and put in my time though. (also a wife and mom) It won't be easy. If you don't have to work much, it's really recommended that you don't. My tip would be to find the study style that works well for you. I had to switch it up from how I got through pre-reqs. It really is a completely different ball game, so to speak.

For us, second semester begins Jan 13th. Third will be next summer or fall, depending on grades and programs offered.

I wish you well! Hopefully we can meet!

what is validations? And what about the drug calculations test? I understand that you must make 100% and with a total of three tries. Is that correct? Are they easy? I am brushing up on my dimensional analysis. What days are classes on? I would love to hook up with you during our 3rd semester.
