Who's applied to GPC for the fall?

Hey All,

I am trying to catch up on the posts. but do you know if we need all the books right away? I am in the process of ordering my uniform and turning in my CPR and getting my drug test and stuff. Books are next on the agenda.

Thanks

Molly

If you go to the bookstore site and look up 1930 supplies, the med-surg book is displayed along with some of the other books that are on our list. The nursing shoes don't have to be Kswiss just white. I found the fundamentals book at echo point books online, I had to do a phone order.

Does anyone know if 6th edition fundamentals is acceptable or the name/e-Mail of the instructor to ask?

If you're already registered for the class go on SIS and under the class' details there is a prof name and link to her email address.

I saw on another post where someone said that you could use the older version of the book. But I got the book for $75.53 new and that's including shipping.

I just bought 6th ed. Fundamentals w/cd & study guide, "Made Incredibly Easy" book series: Dosage Calculations w/cd, Med-Surge w/cd & Fluids and Electrolytes for $55.61, including shipping . CHA CHING!!!

Hi guys,

Congrats on being accepted into the program!!! It is an awesome program, and the instructors are wonderful and really want you to succeed. I was officially done with my first year of nursing school last month. I would like to offer you guys some encouragement, you have a tough road ahead of you, but if it is something you truly want, then nothing will get in your way, and you will have the initals RN behind your name before you know it:). I made it while caring for five kids(13,11,9,8,1) homeschooling, and a out of town husband. With that being said, know that it is definetly doable. I know you guys are anxious to start... the wait to start was worse than waiting on that big enevelope, lol! But I would suggest that you become organized if you are anything like myself. Have yourself a binder for pharmacology, which will be for your drug sheets that you will complete and use for all the semesters. Also, a binder for lecture, which will have all the powerpoints for lecture and that way you can write your notes on the powerpoints and when you study everything will be in one place(section it by test 1,2,3...etc). My notes were all over the place, until someone showed me how they were taking notes. Also, there is a tutorial lab with awesome resources USE THEM, you have paid for them:) The book issue, I used the sixth edition with no problem, a couple chapter numbers were different. I did not have to use my book much because they had one in the tutorial lab that I used since I tried to do most of my studying at school, but when I did use my book it was fine. These are just suggestions that I think may help, but find what works best for you. Feel free to ask me anything, and get'er done future RN's:nurse:

Hey Adorable,A thousand times thank you for your support, encouraging words and clever suggestions ( An Angel just got her wings). I am NOT organized by nature and need all the help I can get. Bless you

Adorable can you tell us how many students started in your class and how many, if any left & why? Do you all follow the same class schedule or break off into smaller groups? Would you happen to have a 1st and/or 2nd semester syllabus you'd be willing to share? Did you attend both orientation & boot camp, what can we expect? Do reccomend attending both? Are you active in any Nursing organizations and if so, which one(s), how are they beneficial? As I mentioned before, I'm not the most organized but I'm always, sometimes annoyingly well prepared. Thanks again for your help, support and encouragement!Bearcat

I am not sure of the exact number but it was somewhere between 150-162. After fundamentals I think we had 146 students. I know of three that said it was just to much for them 2 guys and 1 female. I know a couple that were unsuccessful on their third attempt in skills lab, and some that did not have a 75 average, which is required to pass the course. We all followed the same class schedule. Third semester we are split up half of us do OB and other halve Peds. I will go and see if I still have access on my icollege to both courses,if so I will let you know so I can copy it and send it to you. No, I only attended orientation. I have heard mixed reviews, some say they thought boot camp was helpful others beg to differ. No, my life is to busy to be involved. If I was not busy I would join because they seemed to be very involved with different things and it also looks great on resumes:up: Being well prepared is awesome, you will definitely need it for clinicals, lol. NP, I will help anyway I can.
