Georgia Potential CRNA Students
Hey everyone, I am planning on applying to CRNA school in the next year...please share anything you have experienced so far with the application process for GRU ... Do you know how is the schedule? I think I read on their site its front loaded but how long is the class part and how many days a week? I have to figure out my living situation bc I live in Atlanta... Any info will be greatly appreciated!

I think I'm going to quit during orientation
I don't agree with your post. A full head to toe assessment is necessary every single shift. Of course focussed assessments are done most of the time BUT if you don't do at least one full one at the beginning of your shift how can you really catch things you didn't get in a report or changes that were not noticed before?

New grad RN
Tbajeux2010 and Lucy2811 I'm there with you! I'm struggling with confidence and time management. I'm scared I'm going to make mistakes and forget/miss something...my days off are ruined because I worry about everything I did/didn't do or should've done differently... Gosh I remember thinking that nursing school was the hardest thing I've ever experienced...how I was wrong! I'm just hoping one day we will realize that we are confident and comfortable in what we do!

New grad RN
You just described my exact situation right now! I am stressed out at work...don't want to make a mistake and forget smth, I feel stupid when I do and my off days are ruined because I worry and analyze every detail from work...I hope like everyone says this will change one day...I'm just not there yet and it's extremely difficult to deal with.

New ICU Nurse- Preceptor Problems

New RN; I want to quit my job already.
irishlynn5 I am a little late on this post BUT I feel like I am you right at this moment of my life!!! I hope you are doing much better now and since it would be now about year and a half since you started your nursing career I'm sure you are in a better place!!! I have started in a critical setting about 5 months ago and the stress is starting to get to me...especially in the last few weeks...I'm suppose to go to nights in a few weeks and start on my own (hopefully they will still want me to)... I feel stupid, picked on, alone and unfairly criticized...super emotional, stressed at work and anxious at home...the home part is the worst recently because I feel like I'm not getting a break constantly worrying about stuff I did or didn't do...ugh...I knew it's not going to be easy but I didn't expect it to hit me this hard... I really felt for you reading your post and I'm praying you're in a better place right now...I'm hopeful I will be able to successfully transition and survive my first year too!

Mistake Right After Orientation
I'm so happy to read this post and all of your replies...I am at the end of my orientation in a critical setting and the last few weeks are just kicking my butt. I cannot stop worrying about everything. I had a talk with the supervisors and they are switching my preceptor to evaluate how I'm doing. I'm so scared of making mistakes, forgetting to draw labs, rechecking orders etc. I'm super stressed...

New Nurse Blues
Thank you so much for your encouraging replies! I've been told by some ppl before that I tend to be to hard on myself. In everything I do I strive for a perfect outcome and when I don't get it I take it as a failure. And I do not want to fail in my nursing career! I've worked way to hard for it! Nursing is my second career and I think because how different and demanding it is I'm having a really hard time with the fact that I don't know everything and I'm not always doing best... It's really good to know that others share this experience and even better to know that people do and can overcome this!

New Nurse Blues
Hi all, I am just starting my nursing career and wanted to ask for advice and encouragement from whoever had similar experience. I remember from last semester in NS when we learned about the stages new nurses go through. At first we are excited about passing nclex and getting a job. So excited to start, new people, new place, new opportunities. Sooo proud to answer questions " what do you do for living?"...finally I've made it! But then the reality sets in. The responsibility is huge, the knowledge from NS doesn't seem to match with the reality. Every step you take, every turn you make there is something you don't know. This is very scary. I was hired into a critical care setting with an internship consisting of 3-4 months of classes and about 5 months of preceptorship. I have learned a lot since I started about 5 moths ago. But I still see how much more I don't know. As much as I've experienced in my clinical setting, I have still not encountered many different possible pt scenarios. I had a conference with all the managers and preceptors and was told things I need to work on. Prioritization, confidence in what I know, getting the big picture. I have to say that even though I knew I have a lot more to learn, the last couple of weeks I felt good about my progress and they just busted my bubble. I understand that evaluations have to be made, not only for my sake but of course for the safety of the patients. I just couldn't help the reaction I had to hearing from them that I'm not doing great but ok. I was super distraught after the meeting. I could barely hold tears for the rest of the day at work. I didn't want to cry and be THAT person. I felt humiliated and thought that people are talking about me. My preceptorship was extended. Not sure yet for how long but the only thing I can do is to do my best and see what's the end result will be.

GPC FALL 2012
Hey,I'm just starting NS but from what I've heard there are some stuff scheduled on Mondays already like tests ( in the calendar)... As far as the skill check offs...they have some lab time scheduled from 1:00-5:00 on Tuesdays and Wednesdays BUT with so many people it might be hard to get it... I have to work on Mondays so I'm going to have similar problem as you...
