Long term ACUTE care hospital... Not LTC. There are a lot of drips, vents, and wounds in these facilities. The patients are still critical but are those who have "run out of days" in a hospital.

Hello, I have just accepted a position with an LTACH near me. Are there any tips for someone like me entering an LTACH or things to review before I start (besides chronic disease processes,vents,wound care) or any other fun tips for working in LTACH setting. for reference: I am a nurse with 1 yr intermediate care nursing and 1 year outpatient nursing. I am nervous being out of the direct patient care for one year! but i am excited to be back in direct patient care. Thank you kindly!

hi all. i am a BSN with 2 yrs experience Am i crazy to be wanting to go to a LTC ? (for those who need more perspective=experience 1 yr intermediate bedside, 1 yr ambulatory surgery--i really liked the floor job but this particular floor too stressful for a new graduate and i was unable to really care for my patients as i would have loved to, +night shift made be zombie like.. 2nd job i feel that i was good at but felt too "conveyor belt" and couldn't be caring in the way i went into nursing for & the management is not supportive; i know it sounds like i am complaining but i am a hardworking nurse who truly cares about people, and finding the positions i have been have not helped me grow to the nurse i know i can be, and feeling like perhaps i have to go "backwards" in my career to "restart")

have licence. 2 yrs (1 yr bedside 1 yr ambulatory surgery)

what else can i do with BSN besides nursing. looking into alternatives with bachelors degree in science of nursing.

Hi all, I am planning on relocating to florida (I have raynauds and the cold winters are killing me).. However this whole Liscensure by endorsement is confusing ( I've read the florida website multiple times)-- asking for advise from those who have done it recently.. From what I'm getting-- 1) apply and pay $110 2) somehow get "hard card" for finger prints and then have them transferred to live scan ( but for some odd reason I can't go to a livescan in NJ and have that sent to fl ) 3) get verification from nursys.com 4) do the one CEU required... Is this it? When does the background check come in I am so lost. Thanks in advance!

Hi All, I am a young nurse with just under 2 years experience. I was so excited about going into nursing but it seems I keep hitting bad experiences-- 1 year night shift on a crazy, intermediate/telemetry hospital unit and 10 months experience outpatient GI office losing clinical skills. I just feel I keep hitting bad experiences and am started to get turned away from nursing in general. (night shift was terrible for me -losing weight, feeing like a zombie and was filled with a lot of bullies making it hard to learn on already stressful high turnover floor--that one year in the hospital was a blur, just typing this makes me have feel anxious and this new job I was promised to eventually get trained in endo doing pre/post op--the whole reason I accepted the position--but with the high turnover of the office it looks like this will never happen--day shift is lovely but I feel bored and stuck in an office job and I don't quite feel like a nurse nor do I feel I am using my BSN to its full potential, not to mention my DON is so ineffective it is not even funny, and I am losing clinical experience) I am now stuck in a weird position-- I just don't know where to go from here. I feel like I keep ending up in high turnover positions. I just want the next job I go into to be more of a long term job and I just feel stressed/anxious looking for new jobs for fear it will be another terrible experience. I love geriatrics and I always was interested oncology but no one will hire me in these positions without "experience" but I cannot get into these positions to get experience! I also would love a day shift position but these are also hard to come by. I am lucky I am young and have time but its just frustrating trying to find the best type of nursing for me. Just looking for some advice on where to go next and how to find my niche? or any recommendations of specialties?

Retrospectively, I believe that working at the hospital taught me a lot that will take with me everywhere--I just think I had a bad experience for a brand new nurse. I went to a floor with high stress and high turn over and night shift. I would like to go back, but a different floor and a different shift.

Longhornlillie. I actually ended up sticking with that job for exactly a year and now just accepted a new position at an GI office/ambulatory surgical center. I am nervous because I don't know much about surgical patients but I am excited to learn. I think working Monday to Friday and having no weekends or holidays will be a lot more conductive to my learning :) I'm young and I'm just excited to see all sides of nursing and to find my niche! Thank you all for your kind words and encouragement!!

Well, I am planning on staying for a year. I am starting to look now because I figure by the time I find the job, apply, interviews, etc. etc. I will be about a years experience.

Hello there, I am currently an BSN on a Intermediate/Telemetry floor. While I have learned a lot I am ready to move on. This job just doesn't fit my "niche" and working night shift is too much for me (issues with depression-I am happier in the days). I am just under a year experience (10 months- I have given this job a fair shot, i'm just not happy at my current job). What kind of jobs can I find for with this amount of experience? I am looking for perhaps a new specialty or another area of nursing I never even thought about but I can find a job in having not ALOT of experience. *day shift preferred Thank you!

not exactly where i wanted to go with this post...but they make fun of me behind my back, purposefully choose my patient assignments to give me a hard time, are completely rude to me when i dont know something right off my head about the patient, or if i do something wrong. Like its to the point that other nurses come to me privately and say "that was really mean the way she treated you, she should not have talked to you that way" I am so new at this and the culture on my floor is just aweful and has high turnover because of it. No one wants to help anyone. And this one nurse on my floor has been bullying for years (to the point that i know a few nurses who left specifically because of the bad additude nurses).

hello, let me give you an SBAR on my situation (ha.ha) situation: I think I need to to quit my job background: I am a new BSN graduate who started out 12 hr nights small country hospital BUSY and stressful tele/IMCU floor; however, I hate the job because of the people. I have seriously tried to like it I am 6 months in (3 months on my own). I am getting bullied by some of the senior day nurses and I just don't feel comfortable anymore. I'm stressed, losing weight, anxious, depressed, crying on the job and off (I used to be so bubbly and happy!) I have talked to my boss and nothing is being done. assessment: THUS, comes to my issue. I need to find another job so I can quit my job. I am applying to new jobs in Pa/NJ area with no avail because I have only 6 months experience or there just are no jobs. So now I am starting to think of moving somewhere warm or different. I'm thinking of the coastal NC area or Arizona northern (flagstaff area (family there)). recommendation: Any suggestions on where to apply that the culture will be similar to the northeast. Give me a proper orientation and that treat their employees RIGHT? thank you! or any words of advice for a new graduate having a difficult time?

it just seems like I am having issues with everything. The floor is just very stressful for me so managing 5 patients when most of them are critical and can go down at any moment, understanding telemetry (even with a course), understanding what to do in a critical situation, anxiety, I keep making mistakes in general and with charting (blood forms, restraint forms- even when I really thought I crossed my t's dotted my i's), starting IVs (I've taken an IV course, i've only ever started 4 in the like 50 attempts i've made), my confidence is dwindling. and when I finally have a good night the day shift nurses rip me a new one for not knowing one stupid little thing off the top of my head. I am losing myself in this job. I've given it a full go and shot, but I just keep coming home wanting to cry. I'm just not happy anymore and its just not worth it to me anymore.
