GPC Fall 2014 hopefuls

U.S.A. Georgia

Hi everyone! Just putting feelers out to see who is planning to apply to GPC for next Fall. I am taking my last pre-req, A&P II, this semester at GPC (well, almost last, still have to do that one credit Research class), and pondering when to take the TEAS. Before this semester I was out of school for a couple of years, and had kind of deferred my desire to attend nursing school. But it kept calling me, and I realized I HAVE to go for this now before my Science pre-reqs expire. GPC is actually the only school I've been able to find so far that lists them as good for six years as opposed to the usual five.

I'll be honest, I think I have a chance, but I also think it's a long shot. A lot is riding on how well I do on my TEAS, and getting an A in this class. In the beginning I was feeling very low about my chances, but recently my mindset has shifted, and I am feeling that hunger and drive to be accepted to nursing school. I definitely don't lack the brains, but I'm in recovery, so I have a spotty academic record. If I make an A in this class I will have a 3.0 in my Science pre-reqs and a 3.6 GPA for all the pre-reqs combined.

I also have concerns about my background check, as there are a few things on there, the most serious of which is very old - 16 years. So . . . one part of me knows that I have to cultivate an attitude of "whatever it takes" to get in. Retaking classes, applying for LPN as well, whatever I have to do.

It's pretty daunting to feel so simultaneously hopeful and excited about having a chance, and dwelling on the negative factors and seriously big mistakes that may kill my chances.

I'm really having to take it one step at a time. And every time I see someone in the cafeteria wearing the student nurses uniform I just think about how much I want to be wearing that uniform myself. It's something I really need for my life, my self-esteem, my family, to pursure this successfully. So that's me.

Where are you all in your journey? What are your concerns, struggles, hopes, and mindset? I look very forward to hearing from others. Even though we're competing against each other, we're still in it together and I think support is so valuable.

Tell me your story!

That was suppose to be a 78.6 on reading the first try and 57 the second. BiG difference. However, I can read. my transcript can vouch for that.

I took my TEaS today and got a 92.0% adjusted individual

Reading 97.6%

Math 93.3%

Science 91.7%

English and language 83.3%

I studied my butt off. Hopefully this was the push I needed to get me in!!!

I took it at University of North Georgia. It was on a computer and that was rough. My eyes were so tired and i was so dizzy by the end from reading off a computer screen. I suggest buying the online tests from ATI so u can get used to reading off screen.

I used the ATI book to study. I also bought the McGraw hill 5 practice TEAS tests. Both books were great. Dont bother buying the Kaplan one. It sucks. It is nothing like the real test. I tok practice tests and brushed up on stuff that i struggled with. ATI book covers pretty much everything but the science is so broad and basically covers stuff from every science class you have ever taken so its hard to study for. Brush up on cellular respiration, photosynthesis, cells and organelles, anatomy, periodic table, bonds, taxonomy, mitosis, meiosis, embryogenesis, acids and bases, balancing chemical equations...

math, reading, and usage is exactly what is covered in ATI book. The science in ATI book def helped but some stuff wasnt covered in there. I downloaded an app for my phone called cram and u can search sets of flascards that people have made. I searched TEAS science and found a bunch of stuff

I agree on the ati book! Thats what I used to study and it helped me a ton. Good luck!

Oh man!! That's what I was afraid of with the computer version. I opted to take it at mercer and they offer the paper and pencil version.

I asked where u took it just in case I don't do as well I can take it a few weeks later at another location. University of Georgia offers good dates and isn't too far away.

Thanks for the list. I'm comfortable on the basics of everything listed except for embryogenesis. I'll have to study that.

I'm sorry if my question is totally off the thread...

I have this dilemma of finding a GPC student that can answer my question(s). I have tried calling the school on several occasion, but for some reasons the system ends up not connecting me to a live operator.

I am currently taking my prerequisites at GTC, but would like to take the survey of chemistry sequence (CHEM 1151 & 1152), which isn't offered here at Gwinnett Tech.

Is it possible to be enrolled for these classes in GPC, while still in GTC? If yes, how can I go about this? and If no, do I have to finish my prerequisites at GTC before applying to GPC?

I'll appreciate a response to take me off this dilemma.

Thanks. ✌️

Hi Guys!! I'm an RN who graduated from GPC in Dec of 2012. I know you guys are super stressed about the whole teas test but just make sure you score proficient. GPC weighs in a lot more on GPA. So for example the person with a 3.8 GPA and 63% teas score would get accepted before the person with a 3.0 GPA and a teas score of 85%. It's very true as a few teachers confirmed it when I was in school.

My stats for acceptance where:

GPA- 3.81

Teas- 67.3%

Best of Luck and Hope this helps :-)

Yes. You can co registrar. No idea what it means to finical aid. Keep in mind chem is only a prereq for a&p at gpc. If u can take a&p without it at gtc. You don't need it.

Hi, I'm also applying for GPC and Clayton for the Fall semester. Does anyone have any suggestions of other schools that I should apply?

Just took the teas and don't feel good about it at all :( I'm praying for a miracle at this point. I totally crumbled in the math section but felt ok with the rest. Go figure. The section I was scoring mid 80's on all practice tests is the one that may screw my chances

The math and English need to be 63 correct? As well as total adjusted score? I just took it and may be cutting it close to those numbers. I do have a 4.0 GPA tho. Go figure. I'm the worst test taker on the planet. I'm convinced! :-(
