GPC Fall 2014 hopefuls

Published

Hi everyone! Just putting feelers out to see who is planning to apply to GPC for next Fall. I am taking my last pre-req, A&P II, this semester at GPC (well, almost last, still have to do that one credit Research class), and pondering when to take the TEAS. Before this semester I was out of school for a couple of years, and had kind of deferred my desire to attend nursing school. But it kept calling me, and I realized I HAVE to go for this now before my Science pre-reqs expire. GPC is actually the only school I've been able to find so far that lists them as good for six years as opposed to the usual five.

I'll be honest, I think I have a chance, but I also think it's a long shot. A lot is riding on how well I do on my TEAS, and getting an A in this class. In the beginning I was feeling very low about my chances, but recently my mindset has shifted, and I am feeling that hunger and drive to be accepted to nursing school. I definitely don't lack the brains, but I'm in recovery, so I have a spotty academic record. If I make an A in this class I will have a 3.0 in my Science pre-reqs and a 3.6 GPA for all the pre-reqs combined.

I also have concerns about my background check, as there are a few things on there, the most serious of which is very old - 16 years. So . . . one part of me knows that I have to cultivate an attitude of "whatever it takes" to get in. Retaking classes, applying for LPN as well, whatever I have to do.

It's pretty daunting to feel so simultaneously hopeful and excited about having a chance, and dwelling on the negative factors and seriously big mistakes that may kill my chances.

I'm really having to take it one step at a time. And every time I see someone in the cafeteria wearing the student nurses uniform I just think about how much I want to be wearing that uniform myself. It's something I really need for my life, my self-esteem, my family, to pursure this successfully. So that's me.

Where are you all in your journey? What are your concerns, struggles, hopes, and mindset? I look very forward to hearing from others. Even though we're competing against each other, we're still in it together and I think support is so valuable.

Tell me your story!

Hello all! I was accepted to GPC (the college not the nursing program) on the LAST day of the nursing application deadline dde31 Luckily, I had already sent in my TEAS in hope of my application getting through in time, so I applied on the final day and just got my letter in the mail yesterday saying I met minimum requirements. WHEW! I cut it close, but now the waiting begins. Best of luck to all![/quote']

They extended the deadline to February 7th so you would've made it :)

The wait is killing me. I just want to know so I can start planning lol

Best of luck to you as well!

Speaking of planning, I need to do my 2014-15 financial aid.

I know me too. I still have to do my taxes! Ugh. This week for sure.

This wait is killing me. How is everyone going to prepare for fall when/if accepted? I have some ideas. I wonder if anyone who is currently in the program can pop in and say hello...?

Yes.. I would love to find out about scheduling first semester. I may have to leave my job.

If accepted I will enjoy every free moment with my husband and children and relax this summer. I will be taking speech online but outside of that I plan to take it easy. I also will find a trustworthy, reliable sitter for my 2 year old. Oh and I plan to get a part time job to save a little and put money aside for the background check, books, supplies etc etc. I know once fall semester hits it's gonna be CRAZY so I won't be doing anything nursing related lol

Hey.

I asked about the schedule and a current second semester student told us what the schedule will consist of in the first semester. It may be a page before this one.

Anyone applied to other schools as well? I have half my eggs here and half my eggs in Gwinnett Tech.

I have no Idea if I even have a fair shot here in GPC. Lol. My teas score isn't what I hoped.

ALL my eggs are in the GPC basket! Talk about PRESSURE :-/ I keep frantically checking the mailbox daily even tho I KNOW it's not coming yet. Ugh. I'm just glad I'm not the only one lol you have a great shot. Stop being so hard on yourself ;)

Hahaha thanks. Oh I've been doing the same. I literally wait outside for the mail man to pass by while I go through flash cards. Rofl! I think I might just start standing by the actual mailbox. I can't make it anymore obvious at this point.

You shouldn't have that much pressure, you have a good TEAS score and gpa I think! I don't remember. I've been fishing through the past forums so I see different scores dancing around my head already.

HAHAHAHA! U sound exactly like me! The anticipation is ridiculous.

I did just ok on the teas. Got 74 but have 4.0 in the science courses and 3.81 in the general electives. Currently taking micro and it doesn't seem to be half as involved as anatomy was. Well not yet anyway.
