Gpa 2.73

Published

I have only 3 more pre-reqs to complete before I can start a BSN program here. The requirement is a 2.75. My question is....because of my low gpa, should I give up nursing and try something like HIT? Nurses are deemed as "smart" people. I believe that I am smart but I just haven't found a studying technique that fits my learning style. I know that's going to affect me in any field that I decide to get into so I am trying to work on my study habits. I don't know what to do. Most nursing student have at least a 3.2 gpa. I feel like such a failure. I think I should try something different.

I am in the worse situation that OP - my undergrad GPA is 2.59... I all bad grades are from classes that I had a very little interest in. The classes for my major (labor relations) - are A's and B's.

I was and am discouraged to persue nursing, lots of people say that no matter how I do on my pre-reqs, I will not get into Accelerated BSN program. But here is my plan:

- I will take pre-reqs, which is 6 classes, at a local CC, and wll do them at my own pace, striving to get A's in EVERY class.

- I will volunteer through out the whle time taking pre-reqs

- I will try my best to pass pre-nursing exams, such as NLN and NET

I beleive that my plan WLL work and evern if I don't get into accelerate program, I will get into ADN! Then into BSN, and then to MSN, which is my ultimate goal.

So, please don't give up and do your best! No one like learning. I am telling my 9 year old son, when he refuses to do math - "you just have to set your goals straight, if you want something really bad - you will do it!"

if you truly want to be a nurse don't give up. does your school offer study program, mine has tutors for free if needed, they also have a special lab where people can take tests in a different format or gain assistance in learning how to effectively study, everyone is different; i'm a visual and auditory learner, for me reading out loud was very helpful. check out what kind of assistance your school offers and use it, i wish you success in whatever you choose to become!!

First off listen to your heart. nursing school isnt easy but you can do it if you really want it. second to bring up your gpa befor starting cant you take some cake classes that will bump your gpa? I got A's in psych and sociology and those can bump the gpa as well as got toward the RN. check it out. even english 1 and 2 and help bump it. or take classes in areas of interest that you know you can whip. good luck hun you can do it if you want it. but if not thats ok to. learning what you want comes after realising what you don't want sometimes. ( especially with boys LOL ) good luck!

Please don't listen to the people who are saying to get out of the profession. I am currently a junior nursing student and I was the same way. I came into college thinking it was all fun and all I did was go out and that first semester I sure got a reality check. High school was always a breeze for me but if nursing is what you want to do you will figure out that you have to really study and then you can have fun. I still have fun in college but I always have to make sure that my studying is done even if all of my roommates are going out. Also my first semester I only got a 2.75 and I still had to get accepted into the BSN program and then the next semester I got a 3.0 and I finally got accepted. I promise everything will be fine and it will all work out. Please stick with nursing if it is something that you want to do...I absolutly love the profession although many times I hate the classes :) Hope this helps!

All I can say is follow your heart and try your best because nursing school is hard. I transfered into BSN program with a 3.5 on my pre reqs and in my first semester I got a 2.8. Usually first semester is the hardest so I am hoping that I will do better this spring.

Good Luck to you.
