gpa standards for fresno state nursing program

U.S.A. California

Hi everybody! My names Brittney, i am a full time student here in fresno. I will be attending Fresno State in the fall and have one more pre req to finish up at that time which is microbiology. I am very aware that Fresno state has a requirement that individuals with a 3.7 or better are more likely to be accepted into the program. I have a 3.5 with all 8 pre reqs..one C and it totally ruined my life! But four A's and 3 B's!My question is has there every been any cases where someone has gotten in that didn't have the higher gpa?

I applied to Fresno State with a 3.75 two years ago and was rejected because it wasn't "high" enough, they told me the cutoff was 3.8 and even then you wouldn't be guaranteed a spot if your science grades wasn't stellar. I think it may have changed because a coworker of mine gotvin with a 3.6 so who knows.

I just got in with a 3.9, and have not heard of anyone getting in with a "C".

I know the nursing admissions director told me that with 1 "B" youre probably okay, but with 2 "B"s you are on the fence.

My gut would say that no C's are admitted.

What if someone recieves an "A" in ALL science courses, but in the english courses and speech they recieved "B's"; Are there chances still good of getting admitted?

Hi, I also am transfering in the fall. I attended the RN orientation at State and for those that are unaware of the current standards: NO C's will be admitted. One B already has you severely disadvantaged, two B's will most likely never be admitted. I asked the current RN students that were at the orientation what their grades were upon admission and all four of them were over 3.7. Those with B's had to retake their courses to get A's.

I also asked the program administrator about the odds of getting in with an ASN, she said your chances of getting in are significantly high.

My plan is to get my ASN at FCC (I've been in the lottery twice already and still waiting), then apply for State's program. In the meantime I'm planning on CNA to LVN and I'm majoring in Microbiology at State.

Hi guys! Is anyone else here waiting on word from Fresno State regarding their application for Fall 2012? I'm a nervous wreck. I keep checking my application status, hoping for a change! LOL

When you were at the orientation, did they say whether it is the prereq gpa that they go off of or the cumulative gpa? When you say no C's, is this in the prereqs? I don't have orientation until July 16th, so I'm not exactly sure how they base acceptance. I had heard it was strictly off of the prereqs...

I had heard it was strictly off of the prereqs...

In reviewing the info I got at my orientation, 3.0 must be maintained throughout all classes. I'm pretty sure C's in prereqs won't be competitive enough.

Also, the paper states that prereqs retaken agter earning a C will not be accepted, except if the original C was earned at CSUF or is a minimum of 5 years old.

Yikes! State's program is EXTREMELY competitive.

Ask tons of questions at the orientation. They don't give you great info, you have to ask specifically and they will answer honestly.

Pinayluv78, are you waiting for an admissions response to State or their nursing program?

Goodluck!!

Oh yea, the pre-nursing advisor at the orientation said: if you really want to be a nurse, apply at every school in the valley.

:(

I've already been accepted to Fresno State and I'm still waiting to hear from the nursing department regarding acceptance into the program. I have a 4.0 prereq gpa and 3.66 overall. Did you apply?

I just checked my application status & I got in! I am so happy! :)
