Does anyone know if it is possible to keep a 4.0 during nursing school or is nursing to hard. Who cares to get a 4.0 anyway during nursing school as long as you have above a 3.2 is ok right? I plan on going to get my masters I just dont want to feel like i have to keep my 4.0

It is possible to keep a 4.0 in nursing school, but it is hard. The tests are very different than the types you are use to taking in your prerequisites. There are a couple of girls in my class that are maintaining a 4.0 but they have to constantly read and have NO time for family or friends. Not to metion, I think, their clinical practice suffers because they are too worried about book tests and then don't understand how to carry that knowledge over to the clinical setting. But again, that's just my opinion and it doesn't account for ALL people holding a 4.0. My recommendation is to do your best, keep everything balanced as much as possible - lectures, clinicals, family, and you should do fine. And having a B average is not the end of the world. There is only one girl in our class that I know of that has not recieved a job offer - and she is a 4.0.

Nursing school is very challenging and the courses can be intense, especially if you go full time. A 4.0 is nice, but it's not absolutely necessary. Where did you hear that? I recently finished nursing school and most students were not straight A students. Most schools don't want anything below B or 3.0 though, to get into an MSN program. But there is no rule that says everyone needs to be a 4.0, that would be very unrealistic and impossible for everyone to get that.

Thanks for the responses I was just worried because I had a 4.0 streak and just because of one assignment i am not getting a B in this easy class so Im just upset.:o

I was a 4.0 until nursing school.

I get C's, B's, and A's now. You will learn to "chill" and accept it. If you don't need friends or diversions from the norm, a 4.0 is possible.

But concentrate on being the best nursing student you can be. Let school be fun for you. You will be doing plenty enough without worrying about a 4.0.

I'm now okay with having a B average. You can learn as much as you can, and when you get into the clinical aspect, your learning will really increase!

even Columbia and CRNA schools don't "require" a 4.0, if you have standards that is fine. I was a 3.8 student in my pre-req's. as soon as i begun nursing school, i was fighting harder then i ever had to keep above C+

i went into nursing school with expectations of 4.0, but then i got a quick reality check.

I have been able to keep a 3.8 average so far in my nursing classes and am more then half way through so it is possible. And unlike other people experience I still have a social life and do great in clinicals. The trick is to learn how to take nursing test. Also FIGHT for every test question, think about it dont be quick to answer question every answer they give you. The reason i try so hard to keep my grades up is to be in the best position later to continue on with my education. Plus nursing school is my full time job so to me anything less then an A is not doing my job very well. Just my take on it :)

I start my nursing classes this summer, and I don't expect to maintain a 4.0; however, I do expect to keep my average g.p.a. above the 3.5 mark. I have plans of either furthering my nursing degree or pursuing my MD/DO, and either one will require a higher G.P.A. (especially the MD/DO). I should also point out that I don't know of anyone personally who is maintaining a 4.0 during nursing school.

Quit sweating for A's. Your license is what you want. However, if you plan to apply for competitive programs in the future, you will need the best grades you can get.

Having said that, I was a 4.0 student - class valedictorian and Clinical Excellence award winner; all while working a full time job as a medical assistant at an Urgent Care. I personally didn't find it too difficult to do, but that's just me. Some of my classmates barely made it through, and school was their full time job. It can be done, but at what cost?

Maintaining a 4.0 GPA during nursing school is duable..but it also depends on how you prioritize your work...If you are more focused and determined you have a good chance of maintaining your 4.0. But you also need to understand that Nursing is not all about "book knowledge" you also need to know what you're studying about and how to apply it in clinical. When I was in nursing school I paid more attention to my clinical practice and I still managed to maintain my 3.7 GPA. When you get your license and start practicing, you will learn a lot of things beyond what nursing books have taught you. So you have to have a balance of both...book knowledge and clinical practice.
