Prior Enlisted

Had a quick question for prior enlisted folks going commissioned. I heard a rumor a while back that if you were enlisted at a certain base they would not allow you to return to that same base after being commissioned. Is this true, or have I just been misinformed?

Urban legend; I've known an lt and a capt who returned to the very battallion they were enlisted in.

I have not heard that before either. Almost anywhere is fair game as long as there is a spot for you at that post.I do not think that prior assignment is factored in that heavily. You have a lot of people that get to go back to places they like by asking for TDY and return or TDY enroute orders.

Sounds like wishful thinking.

Can someone else please give some input? I know that you can go TDY back to your old base but i was speaking more along the lines of PCS. Thanks for the replies :)

What base are you trying to avoid returning to?

You need to speak with your PMO and tell him/her where you would like to go. They will try to get the location of your choice.

You can express your desires, but none of the services will give a guarantee regarding assignments. "The needs of the service" will always override.

As I said, they will try. You are right and the need of the service will come first.

If he's in the Army, I'm betting its Drum.....

I was a SSG when I went to AECP, and I came right back to the same post AND unit as a 2LT less than 2 years later...!

So I think it's just a myth, or maybe I created so much havoc that the Department of the Army decided to change all the rules... :lol2:

I'm Air Force and am starting ROTC soon. I wouldn't say I am actually trying to avoid returning here (Travis AFB), but just wondering if it was actually true of what I heard. If I return here I will be back here with my wife while she finishes nursing school because I will be a year or so ahead of her. Thanks for the info though folks.
