Got my license, no interviews yet :(

Published

Hi all,

I'm so confused on why I have;t even been offered an interview yet. Yes, I know I may be rushing things a little bit as I have only had my license for a few weeks, but is there anything I can do to increase my chances for getting an interview? Any information is appreciated!

I'm in the same boat. It's really discouraging!

It takes time. You may need to cast a wider net. Also, what connections have you made along the way? That's the BIGGEST help right there. Put it out there that you're searching- you never know who might be able to help you out!

When did you start applying? Where are you applying? What kind of degree do you have?

Where are you located? In the majority of states in the US, there is absolutely no nursing shortage. New grad nurses outnumber the available jobs, and it is taking many people up to a year to land that first position. My advice is to not limit your job search to hospital positions. Be open to jobs outside the hospital (nursing homes, private duty, home health, psych, hospice, etc.). Good luck!

It takes time, especially for new grads. Be patient. You may need to relocate to a different city or state if you really can't find a job.

Be patient. It took me a few months to finally get an interview. Apply everywhere and don't be picky. Right off the bat everyone is looking for people with experience and you don't have that yet. Get a job where you can and stick it out for a year then go on to places you're more interested in.

Keep your chin up and Good luck! :)

I am also experiencing this same problem. It took 2 weeks for the first phone call for me. In fact, my very first interview is on Thursday! I am interviewing for a position in a prison.
