So last quarter (Spring) i got an F in Calculus class. My GPA dropped from 3.35 to 3.01. It was really miserable because i don't even need that class for General Education nor Pre-Requisites. I took the class because one of my friend begged me to take that class with her and she dropped the class on the last day of dropping without telling me so i was stuck in that miserable class and got an F. But, no more whining for me because the damage has been done. My question is, is there any chance i will get accepted if i'm applying this fall? because i am retaking the class again this quarter (fall) but the professor is even harder than before, i wanted to drop but my friends urge me to stay because i need to apply. However, seeing that the deadline for applying for most school is in November and the date that the grade will be out on January 1st. I see no reason of retaking it if i'm going to get F again. What do you think? What are my chances of getting in? and would it be wise to drop the class and retaking it on winter quarter?
I'm in a community college in California. I've done 90% of my pre-req and i've been planning to transfer to some CSU's, USF and some out of state universities.
Thank you for taking the time to read this and answering it! :)

My question to you is, why are you taking a class that you don't need especially if you are not good at it? I say do not take that class. You don't need it.

^WSS. Why waste the time and money to take a class you don't need. It sucks your GPA was affected, but nursing programs only care that you passed required courses. THey will still look at your overall GPA, but a fail in a non pre req class wont exclude you from the program. Especially if your pre req GPA is still good. I say drop it and don't listen to your friends begging you to take classes you don't need. you could be spending that time focusing on getting good grades and learning the material in classes that matter.

I would get out of that class while you can and save your GPA. You can't increase it if you fail again. If you do well in your other classes you can at least move it up a little. Your GPA may or may not hurt you, depending on the program. Some only look at your nursing prerequisites. Some may use your overall GPA as a qualifier (like if it were below a 3.0 you would not be considered) but may not use it for calculating points toward admission. Get out while you can. Focus on other courses and make As in them.

Thanks for all of your advise, i really do appreciate it. Yeah, i know i was being stupid for taking that class . I think that you guys are right, i should drop it. Because so far, my pre-req GPA is 4.0 and if i do manage to get all A this quarter, my GPA will be 3.25 (a raise of 0.25). I could spent the time to study for my pre-req rather than stressing about my math class every single morning.
I took the class because i was kinda short on college credit at that time, and my friend begged me to take that class with her, stupid thing to do, i know. Now, i have to retake it because i got an F and it bring down my GPA a lot.

I managed to get in with a 2.8 GPA but I Aced my HESI and live in a different area. I am not sure you can really compare schools across states like this, you know? That said, different Nursing Schools have different requirements (at least where I live). Some took total GPA (I got into that one) while others only take into account the classes needed for the program (so if you took a bunch of art classes to prop your GPA it wouldn't matter to them because they only cared how you did on A&P, Micro, and so on). Could you find one of the latter where you are? Sorry, I wish I could help more. It seems silly to have to take such a class again so why spend money to torture yourself, needlessly, if you don't have to?

What nurse needs calculus? There are several options to bring up ones GPA using courses that one can really use as a nurse but are not prerequisites, I did the same to raise my GPA when I was taking my AA. Some additional classes I took include medical terminology, general biology, Spanish for beginners and intermediate Spanish (this comes in handy when transferring to do BSN meets University foreign language requirement). Other courses some student nurses take include American sign language, American History & music(just helps to balance academics), organic/inorganic chemistry, human nutrition and public speaking. Search on here there's many other courses student like to add on.
Students be aware of ones class withdrawal deadlines(usually comes half way in a course) and withdraw from the course if there is risk of failing. That way a W shows for your grade in the transcript but it does not affect ones overall GPA
