Got a Card from Work...

Published

I got home and checked the mail the other day and got a little card from my job. Went inside and put it on the kitchen table, didn't think to much about it. Just expected it to be a regular form letter Christmas Card. After finally getting around to opening it, there was no Christmas Card, but a little Thank You card. Our administrator send me the card. It seems that a family member of one of my patients was very happy with the care I gave their Dad and went all the way up to administration to sing my praises. I just thought that it was really nice for the Higher Ups to acknowledge good work. I guess I was just used to getting letters when you screw up, and good work was just expected and non-appreciated. It just made me glad to work for a company that thanks you for a job well done.

good job! congrats to you! amazing, isn't it? when something from our employer is worthy of a post on allnurses.com! meaning, it wasn't telling you what a turdball you are. really great job.

i used to work for a 6' tall, 350#, red headed nurse that had a very unique way of doing things. she actually had some very cool "little" things she insisted be done. she was the company vp but she insisted all the managers working for her... they had to personally hand out all paychecks, make eye contact with the employee, and offer a sincere "thank you for your hard work on behalf of our company."

write ups were certainly encouraged if needed however we were not permitted to be told only the bad things we did. if we did two bad things the manager had to offer at least two good things we do as well. that way it didn't feel like we were the scum of the earth during a write up for something.

employees were to be treated with respect. if a manager said something that made us feel they were managers and we were mere employees, she would chew their butt right in front of us.

however, if we did something amazingly stupid you could hear those high heels thump thump thump across the floor and you knew someone did something and it wasn't going to be pretty. :p

point being, those little things make a huge difference. feels weird the first time your manager looks you in the eye and truly, sincerely, thanks you for your hard work as he hands you a paycheck - but after time it feels kinda nice.
