Hello everyone! I'm new here. I've been a "lurker" for a while and decided to join when I got the call today that I have been accepted into the LPN program for the 2011/12 school year. I'm so happy, jittery, excited, nervous, scared. My mind is racing! I have been a stay at home mom for six years and I'm ready to get back out there in the "real world". Just wishing I would have done it many years ago when my brain was younger and when I didn't have two kids and a husband to tag along with me in this new journey of mine! But I have convinced myself that we will do this together and I will be supermom/superwife/superstudent for however long it takes to get my RN. And I'm sure I have much more passion and life experience to offer now. Any advice out there from anyone who has survived going through LPN school and onto to get their RN while married with small children? I will take all the help I can get!!!

Congratulations!! I just got my acceptance letter yesterday and it was an amazing feeling! I do not have any children but I have to say that I admire you for going to nursing school! This will be the best thing you could do for your family! Good Luck!:redbeathe

Congrats. I too am about to start LPN school , in May. My school says I should receive my invitation card on the 14th. It sounds as though you and I have alot in common, only I have 3 children along with the husband. I think we both deserve a pat on the back for having the courage to try. Im am very nervous. Last years class started with 200 students, 45 graduated. What was I thinking?!!! I guess I dont really have any advice to offer you for I need alittle myself, but maybe we can keep in touch. At least we will have someone to cry with LOL.
Congrats to you hope! Yes I would love to keep in touch. We can compare stories on time management! Haha! I have a feeling that's going to be the most challenging part. We can do this!

I'm a stay at home mom too for 10+ years (used to be!) and going through night classes for my LPN. I have 3 kids at home. I won't kid you, it's freaking hard!!! lol Accept the fact that your house is going to be a mess for a year. You will have to sit amongst the clutter and study, because YOU HAVE TO. You'll stay up til 2am studying and up at 6am to get them ready for school. My husband has been a HUGE help and it's a team effort.
I love what I'm doing, and counting down the days that I can have my life back! The pace is so fast and I'm still so excited!! I've made it through the first rotation in the LTC and it's on to the hospital after spring break! yay!
One piece of advice, as soon as you start the class, start working on the pharmacology math. There is a workbook that should be included with your program. Make sure you really get to that ASAP as it's a huge reason people have to drop out. Get tutoring, watch youtube videos. Our instructor recognized it right away and has had huge success helping students stay in class by addressing that need immediately upon starting.
Good luck!
Thanks for the advice. I have been studying some at home awaiting the start of my class. I looked into the Pharm Math, dosage calculations. I actually remembered something I was taught in 3rd grade that made the dosage calculations really easy. Im not sure how you were taught the Metric System, but we were taught Kangaroos Hopping Down Mountains Drinking Chocolate Milk. This sounds silly I know, but goggle it. It makes converting dosages very easy. Then once coverted, I use this formula: Desired order/Available Strength X Quanity contaning available strength= amount to be given. Also, some of the nurses here told me to spend what time I had before class begins learning medical terminology. They said if I dont know terminology, when it comes time for the med/surg part of the course, I would be lost. I ordered a book called " Medical Terminology Made Incredibly Easy" from Amazon. It was $17.00. It has Term as well as A&P. It has helped me alot.
Awesome! You're definitely on the right track then! Good job and lots of luck!

The actual LPN class? Or was this just weeding out people in Pre-reqs? That is a crazy fail rate...
If I read it correctly, on their web site, the actual class. I REALLY hope I read it wrong...
