Good Resume Fillers

I plan to graduate next year and go into L&D nursing. I am looking for certifications that can beef up my resume. I am aware of PALS and PEARS and know that the CDC offers some certifications online. I was wondering if there were any on there specifically or from other sources that would look good on a labor and delivery new grad resume. Also the less expensive the better!

Additionally, I have found a couple certifications on Global Health E-Learning Center that sound beneficial. But I do not know how scholarly or reputable the Global Health E-Learning Center is (and how good it would sound on a resume for a hospital!)

Specializes in PICU, Sedation/Radiology, PACU.

L&D nurses are more likely to need ACLS and possibly NRP. I doubt PALS would be required since it would not apply to your population.

Certifications without the experience to back it up are just extra letters, for the most part. AClS is not a difficult course to pass, so I would not expect that a new grad with ACLS certication is any more prepared for clinical nursing than one without it. Do you know if the L&D floors at your desired hospitals hire new grads? Many don't. I would focus your efforts on ways to get your foot in the door in an L&D unit somewhere. Shadowing, a tech job, a preceptorship if your school offers one.

I think acls is good to get before, because although you have no experience, if its going to be required at the job, it reflects that you are prepared (imo). As for pals, i got it as a new grad only because i was applying to a childrens hosp. While these certs dont mean or imply that you are somehow able to do squat in a code, they do show that you have studied and thus been exposed to the theory of acls.

Too many random things are a turn off, because if you were soo interested in these things, you wouldnt need a certificate to motivate you and would have just learned to learn. So dont overdo it. But yes, i think acls and the infant equivalent would be helpful.
