Good outlooks for class of 2007>?

don't we always hear this yet so many schools have waiting lists and several new nurse grads struggle to find a job? What do you all think of this?

I do not think you should look at these statistics too hard because they are national. Thus within areas where there is no shortage of new grads or a need for Registered Nurses people may find a had time getting a job. In many other areas, such as where I live, new grads and experienced nurses will not have a problem finding a job. In fact, I already have employers requesting that I consider working for them when I graduate though I am not finished with my first semester! GL! :wink2:

There is a shortage of nursing educators, that's why there are waiting lists and competition at schools. It just does not pay as well to be an educator.

It's true that in some areas there is not a nursing shortage, but when you look at the national average there is. Some areas are simply shorter than others.

If you're near a city in the northeast part of the country, you'll have no problem getting a job in any unit in any hospital.

I am in the South and there are lots of RN jobs! The hospital where I do clinicals would love to snag all 60 or so of our grads this spring..and we turn out 2 classes a year. Plenty of jobs to be had. We have recruiters coming just about every week for the rest of the semester..plenty of free lunches lol. Even WITHIN the hospital - I was offered interviews in multiple specialties. I could easily choose ER, ICU, OR, NICU, etc. Many of our soon to be grads have jobs lined up - 3 months before graduation. Our pay is slowly coming up too! I don't know many majors where you have people lined up to offer you a job. Our college sent out flyers to upcoming grads to put our resume on a CD to go out to employers in the area..no need for nursing grads - we have offers out the wazoo.

Hmm just noticed it said there will be a need for 712,000 new RNs over the next 10 years. I wonder what the avg number of new nurses across the 50 states is per year? Anyone ever seen that figure?
