Good online NP school for a non nursing bachelors degree

Published

I am trying to decide on FNP schools where you don't have to have a bsn. I have a b.s. in biology and a m.s. in biology and don't want to go get my bsn before starting FNP school, so what are good schools that fit that requirement. I feel like I've searched and searched but when I start digging in they want bsn. Want no bsn, no gre, and online, preferably part time and with several start dates not just once a year. Is this to much to ask?

P.s. have applied to Simmons, recent reviews I have found online scare me, especially with a 60k price tag! Any help would be greatly appreciated

I'm confused, do you have your ADN and years of experience in the nursing field but just chose to get your bachelors and masters in biology? With RN experience I bet you could apply and explain the situation to the FNP program and they would accept it.

If you aren't a nurse, haven't worked as a nurse, never went through nursing education.... then you should be applying to PA programs instead of NP programs. NP programs are designed for students who already have a few years of medical/healthcare education and passed boards, got licenced and practiced for a few years learning clinical on the job knowledge.

Sorry should have clarified. Yes I already have an ADN, no I don't have years of experience and I did the traditional 4 yr school to do vet school but decided vet school wasn't for me, but fell in love with genetics and pursued a master's in that only to find it is completely unemployable unless you want to teach and I don't.

Every masters program I'm aware of confers a BSN at some point in the process. That being said I am certainly no expert on the subject and could very well be wrong.

Wanted to add I'm glad you clarified that you actually ARE a nurse otherwise your post could be interpreted much differently. Would have been fun though.

This isn't entirely true, there are a number of quality (and a number of non-quality) direct entry NP programs for individuals with non-nursing bachelors degrees.

Many ADN-MSN programs do not confer a BSN along the way; if they did then students could not use GradPlus loans for the undergrad portion of the program.

If you wanted to be in healthcare you could also consider a pharmaceutical sales job especially in the gene market.

Shoot Boston I just read my post and meant to say I'm NOT an expert. Proofreading is a good thing. Yikes!

Mods could you please edit my post. It makes me sound like a tool.

I would be interested in hearing more about the non-nursing bachelors options for NP. I am a chiropractor and woudl be very interested in knowing if there is a way to do this without first getting my RN.

If you search the internet for "master's entry program in nursing" you will find several entry programs; many of which include an NP option.

Even with the ADN, I might recommend including PA programs in your options

You can do a search on "master's entry" or "direct entry" programs.

One little clarification, all these programs prepare students to sit for the NCLEX and student's must pass it and obtain an RN license prior to continuing on to the APN/graduate portion.

The only online FNP program in my state that doesn't necessarily require a BSN is at Gonzaga University. Though, they only accept students from a small number of states.
