Golden West College Fall 2019

Published

Hello fellow fall 2019 applicants!

God willing, we will find out if we made it into the fall 2019 cohort at Golden West the latter part of April. I have been waiting for someone to start a post so we could all "calmly" wait this process out together! I know I am not the only one out here so please join me as we "patiently" wait for our acceptance emails/mail! All positive vibes, I am low key an internal wreck, if you cannot tell by the words I strategically placed within "quotes", lol.

Thank you!?

I’m unable to comment in our fb group even tho I was accepted

is anyone else confused about the drug test deadline? It says due on June 17th, but does that mean it HAS to be ORDERED or COMPLETED by 17th? The GWC website under clinical requirements states once ordered we have 30 days to complete it or we need to order a new one. But the deadline is 2 weeks from now so why would they state the 30 day deadline?

Just have it done asap..

Hey Everyone...

I am a pre-nursing student at GWC and need some advice. So I just finished my last pre-req this spring and was preparing to apply to GWC's RN program later this month.

1. Due to my Science GPA (2.69 - B, B, C) being horrible, my counselor honestly told me I most likely will not get in this time.

2. My current TEAS exam is scheduled in 3 weeks. I have been studying for it - just not really in depth as I should. I feel like even if I push, 3 weeks is not enough. I will also be starting Pharmacology next week, June 10th.

So, my dilemma is: do I reschedule my TEAS date to mid-July to give myself more time?

This would eliminate me from applying this time to GWC - but again, I already know I would have a very slim chance anyway. At least, I can "save" my TEAS score and hopefully score really high if I take it later. I intend to apply to Long Beach City and Santa Ana later in August / September.

Thank you!

Ok i recommend u to redo all your science courses and get A's before applying to any school... As for the teas I would study in depth until your comfortable to pull off 90% or higher..

I would honestly spend the time to retake your science courses (at the very minimum, the "C" one). This will not only help your chance of getting into GWC, but other schools you might want to apply to next year.

As for your TEAS, I would reschedule to have it done next year as well if you can and make sure you study at least a month or two in advance if you know you're going to have trouble with it.

I'm taking pharmacology this summer too, so hope you do well in the class!

Thank you both! Yes, I am definitely planning on retaking my Physiology course again this fall to raise my GPA.

Anatomy and microbiology should be retaken also. (Nowadays even with 2 As and 1 B will get u rejected from nursing school science gpa 3.8)

I do have nearly 3 years of work experience in the hospital as a nursing assistant and I have both my CNA and EMT licenses. What is everyone's experience - has anyone heard of students getting in with a lot of work experience, but not the "greatest" GPA?

It's all about the points so.. if u have a bad gpa but do everything else and ur pts fall below let's say "80" then most likely u will be rejected from that school. (This is for gwc)

Some schools look at potential students holistically so that might be a plus for you, but regardless, all schools will be very competitive and you will definitely need the grades to back up your work experience. I personally haven't heard of anyone getting into a program with low GPA, but great work experience.
