  1. I just asked my boss for a letter and he wrote one for me, sealed it in an envelope and gave it to me to turn in with my application packet. Some schools have the online link method for turning in LOR but GWC doesn't, you just need a letter with an official heading of your workplace. Sounds like he might not believe you, so try explaining it to him and send him a link of the GWC Nursing requirements where they explain what they expect. From their online orientation PDF: "If you have current direct patient care experience in a healthcare setting or relevant certification or license, get letters from the organization on official letterhead stating the number of hours completed the length of time you worked/volunteered and the type of work performed or copy of certification/license and attach it to your application." http://www.goldenwestcollege.edu/wp-content/uploads/2018/09/GWC-Nursing-Orientation-2019.pdf Good luck!
  2. Some schools look at potential students holistically so that might be a plus for you, but regardless, all schools will be very competitive and you will definitely need the grades to back up your work experience. I personally haven't heard of anyone getting into a program with low GPA, but great work experience.
  3. I would honestly spend the time to retake your science courses (at the very minimum, the "C" one). This will not only help your chance of getting into GWC, but other schools you might want to apply to next year. As for your TEAS, I would reschedule to have it done next year as well if you can and make sure you study at least a month or two in advance if you know you're going to have trouble with it. I'm taking pharmacology this summer too, so hope you do well in the class!
  4. Thanks for creating the group! That's what the general opinion seems to be from my brief sleuthing on the internet haha. Thanks for the reply!
  5. By the way, is anyone taking pharmacology at GWC this summer? I was debating on whether it's a good idea to take it this summer or if I should just enjoy my last bit of freedom before school starts haha.
  6. Hey congrats! I don't believe there is a facebook page for our cohort yet and I think the mandatory orientation will be in August.
  7. Hello everyone! I've applied to a few ADN programs but just in case I don't get into any of them, I was thinking of maybe applying for WCU in OC later this year. The hefty price tag that comes with WCU is incredibly intimidating, so I'm trying to get an idea of how much it's going to cost me after I transfer my prerequisite credits. I used their TES website to check which courses were approved and ran into some confusion (I took the general writing courses at a UC and the TES website had several entries for them that contradicted each other- some said they were approved but one said they weren't approved? So which is it?!). I would like to know for sure which courses I would have to retake so I can preferably take them at a CC soon and save money. Does anyone know if the school can evaluate your unofficial transcripts and tell you which courses are transferable before you formally enroll in the school?
  8. Sorry to hear the bad news Diplopia, good luck the path you choose now! I applied for the OC campus and still haven't heard anything back yet. My friend who also applied received an e-mail telling her that they made an update to her application status just this week, so hopefully we will hear back from them soon.
  9. Maybe dumb question or I'm overthinking it, but I'm thinking of going into the nursing field and checked out some of the admission requirements. They all have a minimum GPA requirement for the pre-requisite courses but I'm a little confused on how to calculate my GPA. For example, one school's minimum pre-req GPA is 3.0 (no lower than a C for each science requirement) and they require you to take Inorganic, Organic, and Biochemistry. The school that I'm taking those courses at gives you two separate grades for lecture and lab, as well as splitting each "category" of chemistry over 3 quarters (such as General Chemistry is 3 courses total, Inorganic Chemistry is 3 courses total, etc.). So for nursing schools, would they add all three quarters worth of lecture and lab grades together to get one single grade average for that specific category of chemistry? Or would they count each lecture/lab from each quarter on it's own and I must receive a letter grade of C or higher in all lectures/labs from each quarter? I'm planning to e-mail the schools to clarify but I just wanted to ask on here first, just in case the answer is really obvious... Thanks for any insight!
