Hey everyone,
I just wanted to start a thread for everyone applying to GWC this month so we can answer each other's questions, share our points, and check status' if we wind up on the alternate list.
Good luck everyone!!
Hey alternates, I just got off the phone with a nursing coordinator from Golden West because I wanted to verify my point total with her. malenurse2b3 called and went over his points so I thought I would do the same. She told me that they cannot tell us our points, nor will they tell us the cut-off point. She said that they will give us credit for whatever they like and sometimes it is different than what we think. Hmmm. She said that they do go in order of point total with the alternates as well, it is not a lottery, they just go down the line and that they typically pick up more alternates for their SPRING class rather than Fall. In the meantime she suggests we get our classes in order and take Communications/Speech and Lifespan Psych if we do not have them. She said they will contact alternates up until 2-4 weeks before class starts if necessary. That was all the information she could give me. Hope that helps and FYI, if you call they will not go over your points with you.
Thanks for that information! Need of advice: If you get accepted to SAC Fall and have sent official transcripts and ATI scores to them already but get called as an alternate to GWC Spring, would it be worth it to wait 6 months for GWC or do you suggest that it's best if I continue SAC in the Fall? In a dilemma!

I am in the same boat. I haven't taken Pharm or Nursing Concepts which are required by SAC before start of 2nd semester. I won't be able to take them over the summer. a nursing friend of mine told me I would hate my life if I tried to do it all first semester. GWC is a closer drive. I'm going to wait until after the meeting at SAC Friday to make up my mind. GWC also requires a human growth and development class and a sociology class. You could always take those in the fall while waiting for GWC. I've heard pros and cons about both programs.

Did they already call you for spring?
You should make a pros and cons list. It may be beneficial for your personal situation to wait for reasons like @digsthedirt said: money, classes, distance, whatever it may be.
If GWC called for fall, then of course take it. But personally, I wouldn't wait. I'd chose which ever is sooner because I have all those things completed.
GWC is the better program. They have had up to 15% higher NCLEX passing rates than SAC had in the past 3 years. If you really prefer GWC, and really don't mind waiting that time or even benefit from it, it is an amazing program.
GWC did not call me yet, I don't think they called anyone on the alternate list yet. But since I am currently taking Pharm at GWC, I think I'd be willing to wait for GWC Spring, UNLESS I can register to take a Pharm or Nursing Concept this summer for SAC then I might as well start SAC in the fall. Does anyone know if we can register for SAC Summer classes yet? I've never taken a class at SAC yet so I dont know how I'd be able to register for the summer since i'm probably not "priority" to register. Hope the classes won't run out!

registration for sac starts tomorrow. If you login to your webadvisor account, click student and registration status, you'll see you're date.
I'm on the alternate list also and just called GWC. They said they haven't contacted any alternates yet since they're busy setting up the class schedules. They'll be contacting alternates by the email that they have on file for you. I'm not sure if they'll call us also. But just keep on checking your email and answer all calls! Good luck!
Hello everyone :) I received the alternate letter from Golden West for either spring 2017 or fall 2016. I really want to start in the Fall, my fingers are crossed. I applied to over 20 different nursing schools for the fall 2016 semester. I was accepted by Los Angeles and an alternate for GW. I was denied by 15 different nursing schools and i'm still waiting on some others but golden west is one of my tops schools. Its closer to my house. I live in San Diego. I called Golden west this morning to try to get some in site as to my wait list number etc The lady told me that there is no number, it goes by points. She also said they get most of the alternates for the spring cohort instead of the fall. So as of right now its a waiting game to get a spot.
