Golden West College ADN Fall 2021

Nursing Students School Programs

Updated:   Published

Hi all! I wanted to start a new thread for those of us who are planning to apply for GWC ADN Program for Fall 2021. I thought we could post any questions, help, or updates.

I will be applying with either 82 or 87 points depending on my TEAS score. Right now I'm hovering in the mid 80s for practice exams, but hoping I can still land in the 90s.

It looks like last semester was really competitive so it's making me nervous.

Hey everyone! ? This is my first time posting after years of lurking this website since high school LOL! I’ll be applying again to GWC for the fourth time. I’ve been rejected three times in the past two years and I’m starting to feel extremely defeated, especially after seeing friends getting into nursing school. My points have approved a bit but I worry it’s not enough. I feel like if I get rejected again it’s a sign from the universe to change my plans ?

Wishing everyone good luck!

hi! If I may ask, how many points did you apply with originally?

Please keep us posted on the response. I have passed AP English Language but did not bother with requesting official scores to be sent. It shows up on my CSULB transcripts, but I don’t think it’s necessary as I have already been awarded my BA. As far as I’ve read, the site, FAQs, and MC guidelines didn’t specify about sending in scores for AP (other than the Foreign Language if you passed with a 3 or above, in which case, I would definitely send in official scores). With the foreign language, I am using high school transcripts, so I ordered and had them sent in advance. I read the GWC won’t be updating mailed in transcripts until Summer due to COVID. Hopefully, this won’t be an issue for me.

Were you applying to CSUF as undergrad or ABSN? I paid the fee but didn’t submit my application in time ?

Hi! I spoke with one of the live counselors via chat and on the phone, and they both said to not bother sending it, because it’s going to take 2-4 weeks for it get sent. We should be fine, as long as we are not using that course for a class that’s required on the application.

They said to apply and if we get admitted, that’s when we can talk to a nursing counselor and go over the AP score report.

So when I first applied it was back in 2019 I think and I had around 72 points but they had a different point system then. Last time I applied I had 76. This time around I’ll have 82 points I think. I know someone who got in with 72 points the other year and was on the alternate list. I guess it really just depends on the pool of people applying and what points they have. It’s been stressful though because each time I apply it seems to get more competitive! ?

That’s awesome! I took my TEAS and didn’t do too hot. I scored a 70.7, but it still grants me 20 points.

my total is coming out to 82 points. I truly don’t know what to expect, but I read from the previous application period forum that people in the 80’s range got in. Im hoping for the best tbh

Same here. Last semester was pretty competitive, but the 80s still got in and those at 78-79 got in on the alternative pool. I really hoping to get in for Fall. I only have one year until my Micro expires and I would really like to not take it again.

Hey that’s okay, your points are great! I’ll be happy if I get placed on the alternate list tbh. I remember when I would read older forums I would see some people with 80+ points get in so once my point total reached 80 I might’ve gotten a little emotional LOL. I’ve put so many years towards this I just refuse to give up at this point even though I feel like it at times. A lot of my family members are already giving me that “well... can you change your major? Have you though about _____ instead?” conversation ?

I’m crossing my fingers for all of us!

WOOT! Im happy you made it to the 80's! That's definitely an accomplishment. I was thinking of retaking it, but I think Golden West only views your first attempt. : c GWC only looks at your composite score right?

Thank you! And yeah, they only look at your composite score! I’m glad they only look at the composite score since I didn’t do too well on the reading and English sections. I know some schools like CSULB look at the composite score and the reading score (not sure if that’s changed). And yeah sadly for GWC if you want to retake it you have to wait a year unless you didn’t pass : / I can’t remember how it is for other schools though.

I’m still not seeing a link. Has any of you?

I just checked, if you go to the how to apply page there’s a button for the application! It takes you to the mycoast portal login. They probably just updated it.

Hi Everyone!

I was wondering if a caregiver falls under the work experience on the application.

From the FAQs, it’s states it is acceptable if through an agency.

Ooo can you send me the link to that? Or were you looking at the multi-criteria guideline? I looked at the FAQ and it said that it must be performed as clinical work and within the last 3 years. I got hired through a private company, and I’ve worked directly with patients at my center.
