Going straight for my RN

Nurses General Nursing

Published

Ok so i made my final decision and I am definitely going for my RN. Right now I am starting to look at my old anatomy books and nursing books, because @ one point i was going for my LPN. Are there any groups online that help you be more involved with Nursing, and helps you understand the fundamentals of it? Or what can I do to get myself more familiarize with Nursing. LPN was not easy for me, but I decided to give myself the challenge and go straight for my RN, because that is truly what I want to be. So any tips?

Pay depends on facility, location, degree and specialty I believe. Good Luck to ya!:)

thank you.

Good luck. I'm sure you will do just fine. Often you can take a CNA course through your local community college. That can get you some experience and bring in some money. Community colleges also offer a 2 year RN program. Check into it ASAP because they have a wait but you can do your pre-reqs while waiting. You can alsways go for ytour BSN after your AA if you so choose.

Yes I am currently attending a 2 year program but my graduation date will be the year 2013. I am taking the pre reqs now. Do you know how much is the start pay for RNs?

Don't waste your precious time...get licensed as an RN

That is exactly what I am doing. Just know its a little intense.

Here in NC, the starting pay for an RN is a little over $20 an hour. It sucks.

If you are going to be a CNA, go to a nursing home that will pay you while you take the courses and will pay for the course itself and testing.

No I am currently going for my RN.

really i didnt see that in the bls.gov I saw they start you off with about 30/hr

LPN's don't work in hospital by me. They all work in LTC's.

And you have to take a State course and test to be a CNA, and take another course on top of that to be a PCA. It all varies by state.

Going straight for you RN, since that is what you want to be, is the best decision.

Oh and as far as LPN's being "so far ahead" that depends on the person. I know 3 LPN's who are FAILING A&P and Microbiology, yet myself, who hasn't ever been to college, is passing with an "A."

Every hospital website I've seen in this area and in other parts of the state has their STARTING pay listed as around $21 an hour. Experience gets you more.

Another FYI --> RN definitely opens doors, and the pay is higher. Job prospects are a little sunnier these days but, the curriculum is apparently much much more demanding than LPN curriculum. I know several LPNs that began the RN then stopped, not interested in the hassle. Some others I know failed, while others went on to the PhD level through ADN, BSN, Masters etc! Everyone is different of course...but expect a challenge.
