Just curious as why others are going the LPN route instead of straight to ASN or BSN RN ?

I want to be a nurse and personally can't attend a full time program. And in my area LPN was the only program that offered a part time evening class that would allow my work schedule and I have a 6 month old son. Also the private school didn't have a wait list. So ill be starting jan 13th. once I'm a LPN I'm hoping on a job that will allow me to live off while I can go Ft days to a RN program.

What are others decisions?

When I decided to attend LPN school a few years ago I did it because I wanted a foundation to nursing. I am so happy I did it too! I have now been an LPN for 3 years and am currently finishing my pre-reqs for the RN program. I feel I have gained so much confidence and knowledge from my LPN that I would not have gotten if I just went straight to my RN.

Today I ran into a lady who was on the local community college's RN Program's waiting list with me 2 years ago.

She is still on the waiting list.

I start orientation at my new job as a LPN tomorrow. In addition, said community college admits LPNs into the second year of the program and there is no waiting list for that.

Yessss girl I can not wait until this is me!!!

Lpn is a cheaper and less difficult alternative to me. the cost to be an lpn at a tech center is way cheaper than what i was doing, which was attending a community college for two years( for pre reqs) then transferring to a big university to get my rn license. now when i become an lpn i can continue my education to be an rn right back at the community college, its a lot less. compare $36,000 to $9,000 with the lpn, then lpn-rn bridge.

I chose this route so I could work while pursuing the RN program. Unfortunately, you get used to the decent paycheck and this can derail you from going back to school immediately. I graduated and passed boards in 2011. I am currently in a transition program and will graduate May 2015. While I do not regret getting LPN experience, I do wish I would have gone straight back to school after graduating.

I plan to begin LPN school in May 2014. Although I have a college degree in something else, I have chosen this route because I want to work as a LPN as I pursue my RN.

These are all good reasons for starting off with your LPN, you should also considered joining the NFLPN the only organization for LPN's that also has an honor society, and many continuing education opportunities at discounted prices. They are affiliated with excelsior college where you can obtain your RN on line and do your clinical time where you work.
